To the Student Body: This year there have been a lot of changes in the Lariat. Under the direction of a new instructor and a new yearbook company the Lariat staff has prepared this book for you. The editors and Mrs. Adams have worked many hours overtime, as have many of the other staff mem- bers. All of this work has been done because JHS, YOU'RE STILL THE ONE. The Yearbook Staff. But if you just sit in class with the attitude of I wish I weren't here, or This is so boring. That is ex- actly how it will be .. BORING! Where as if you try to enjoy the class and make the best of it, it will be much easier to take and you might even enjoy it. WHO ARE WE? LONGHORNS! People have literally been going to school for centuries, Even so. it still is not one of the favorite pastimes, as a matter of fact, to many students, school is a real hassel. Many times it has the effect of hair pulling. Another outlet for school related anxieties is pulling someone elses' hair. IS OUR GOAL! 6 “MOODS A butterfly struggling to free himself, spreading his wings and flying free is an example of a natural change. We as young people are very much like the butterfly. While the butterfly is going through many changes, we also go through changes, moods. Many times people feel like just sitting and thinking; being quiet. Other times our mood is loud, happy and outgo- ing. Just as the butterfly must go through changes so must we experience moods. 7 WE'RE STILL HAVIN' FUN! 9 12 Going to school is hard work. Actually there is very little difference in going to school and having a job. You are ex- pected to be there bright and early every morning. You have assignments you are expected to carry out every day. So indeed school is HARD WORK ... wnere the only pay is what you learn. LONGHORNS ARE 0oad2'J OS CKcisVv x.a RtWU eS ii 3 O Ji r r i) c Komerua.H f's We're still the one.in Orga- nizations ..........What-does it mean to be involved in organiza- tions at JHS. To some it means very little, but to others it is a very important part of their school life. It means learning how to conduct themselves in an orderly manner; To learn to work together and get something good out of it; Organizations promote school spirit, as well as pride in our school. They always re- present the school well at state shows. The FFA works hard to make improvements in their program. This year under the leadership of a new instructor they have made numerous im- provements on the barn, and nave added several storage buildings to the FFA area. Each year FFA members attend the National FFA Convention in Kansas City. All of the FFA members work hard to make FFA at Jones number one. What does it mean to be a part of the student life at JHS? To some it simply means getting up and going to school every morn- ing for no other reason than be- cause they have too. However, to the majority of the students it means more; It means going to a place where they are a part of something; It means sharing opinions, thoughts, and joys; It means working together to keep every part of JHS No. 1. 1st row-Mr. Pratt, L. Football is a tough sport, prob- ably the toughest of H.S. sports. Very often pain and agony come with playing. The pain or broken bones and torn ligaments, and the agony of defeat. The baseball boys practiced for two weeks in the old gym. as the track people ran in the new gym. However the weather did clear and all outdoor, Spring sports were soon taking advantage of the sun and the wind. '■jin'd B mo Kxnmm We're still the one — In Sports.................What does it mean to be an athlete at JHS? To some it means getting a credit or being the big man at school; but to more it means showing and proving to other schools that JHS is No. 1. Even though Jones is not al- ways the winning team, they almost always are No. 1 in sportsmanship. To be an athlete is what school spirit is really all about. BILL BOEHME Senior Sponsor JOYCE ROMAN Senior Sponsor HERE'S TO YOU Thank you Senior Sponsors, for ev- erything you've done for us these last two years. You've helped us a great deal and we do appreciate it, even though often we haven't shown it. You'ye taught us so much, not only in the classroom but by just being examples to us, by letting us see the good and the baa of you. As the end of our high school years ap- proaches, we just wanted to say THANK YOU. 66 BIG: HAPPY FAMILY! The Seniors of 78 are a united body of people, until May 12, then each and every person will take on a new identity — no longer will we be stu- dents, but graduates; so until May 12 we'll be one family and then each will become a separate indi- vidual. Some of our family have been going to Jones for 13 year. This is actu- ally an accomplishment in it's self. Congratulations 13 year class- mates. 67 Lee Schuster Jeannette Henry Sherrie ♦Tommie f Rickie Phillips Stephanie , Tdirimy eeter CHERISHED FRIENDS God must have known there would be a time, we'd need a word of cheer. Someone to praise a triumph or brush away a tear. He must have known we'd need to share, the joy of little things. In order to appreciate the happi- ness life brings. I think He knew our troubled hearts would sometimes throb with pain, At trials and misfortune or some goals we can't attain, of an understanding heart to give us strength and courage to make a fresh new start. He knew we'd need companionship, unselfish ___lasting_____true. And so God answered the hearts great wish, with cherished friends, like you. FACING GRADUATION Faces of old and faces of new. People we know and people we knew. Growing together then drifting apart. Always an ending and now a new start. At graduation we grow nearer and all our friends seem so much dearer. And as we say our final good-bye; One last embrace and one more cry. A keep in touch and a promise I will A Remember when but better still, A place in my heart, you'll al- ways stay. It has brought success to the school system. The mid- dle school gives the fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth graders their own school as well as a feeling of individual- ity. The middle school has es- tablished their own student government. These students work hard with Mr. Stevens to better the school. All of the State Center students want to make the school better. 93 Darryl Arrowood Lynette Beatty Cnarlotte Beavers Mike Beavers Donna Becker Gary Bell Shannon Boyd Susan Brown Keenon Bynum Joyce Campbell Carmalieta Chesser Mark Coleman Lori Collier David Cooper Tina Crockett Lawrence Dunn Tony Garcia Marlene Gudenrath Doyce Hardee Karen Harper Pam Hasel Donna Hooper Donald Hurly George Jennings Jim Jennings Julie Landess Robby Lassiter Joyce Lee Gary Mathews Gail Miller Becky McDaniel Jackie Lowe Ron Neal Lesa Nelson Tony Nelson Leslie Nethercutt Russell Ottmanns Jackie Parkhurst Gary Peterprin Phillip Prochuska 94 GETTING READY FOR HIGH SCHOOL James Robertson Leslie Ruble Luke Schrimsher Tim Schrimsher Sherrie Schuibert Angela Scott Cherrie Shaw Larry Sheets Diana Smith Trent Smith Janine Thompson Lorrie Thomlinson Larry Truesdale Jeff Unsell Keith Vlaedman Beth Vorel Debbie White Junior Williams Kevin Williams Scott Wood - Shelly Abbot Steve Almon Scott Aynes Stoney Ball Cathy Barnhill Kerry Becker Karen Breckenridge Cheryl Brown Donna Campbell Donald Campbell Lucretia Chandler Dana Combs SEVENTH GRADERS - CHANGING Larry Cothran Mike Cotheran Leah Cox Sherri Crockett Larry Davis Olando Duran Sonny Edwards Lisa Eden Bobby Florer Marilyn Garza Tiffeney Gottschalk Toby Gragg Sherry Green David Guinn Leo Henry Danny Hill Monroe Hinton Brian Hodgens Ladonna Jacobs Sandra Jasper Nancy Johnson Rachel Knight Jim Lane Hank Leasure Travis Lattin % Douglas Little Lisa Little Debra Lowe Trina Marsh Michael Mason Joyce McCoy Billy Moseley Anthony Miles Kim Naneata Tony Nelson Kim Olivier Cheryl Parkhurst Gerald Parkhurst Terri Pellman Devin Stone Vern Thorton Keith Tipton Mark Trail Rhenda Taylor Tracy Thompson Mary Thornton Anthony Tucker Karla Vineyard Terry Vineyard Carol Weaver Doug Williams Mark Wilson Daniel Adams Pam Arrowood Kim Blackwood Sandra Breckenridge Russell Brown Sheree Burroughs Orvane Campbell Bill Charles Linda Copeland Christine Davenport Wayne Dillon Jeff Franklin Greg Gorham Jeff Grady Darline Gwin Joey Hill Darla Hodgens Ernie Hughes Jeff Jasper Jon Johnston Renee Kidd Leslie Kinsey Debra Knowles Roshelle Lowless Annette Lowe Will Maine Beverly McCoy Robert McCoy Russell McCoy Donna McCurdy Brian McDaniels Ott Mellenthin Tony Miles April Nellake Mike Oltmanns Debbie Pickerell David Prochaska Tarry Schroeder Darren Scott Tim Scott David Simon Mark Simpson Tracy Smiley Lisa Smith Roy Story Julie Swanson Gayla Unsell Leslie Warren Mike Wilkerson 99 Anthony Albano Steven Arrowood Jeff Aynes Tracy Ball James Barrett Dale Bently Sara Boyd Tina Bryan Terry Cathran Kim Coker Cindy Coutee Missy Cox Tim Crockett Gaylan Davis Marylou Eden Robin Flynn David Garr Benny Hale Lisa Hasel Samantha Heath Billy Heigi Josie Henry Brian Hensley Vicki Hines Renee Hinton Walter Holder Lori Hopcus David Horton Janine Lane Scott Maine Tracy Manwell Missy Mason Bryan Mathews Heidi McDaniel Brian Miles Dorothy Mills Brian Morrissey David Otwell Shannon Otwell Cheryl Pickerell Adrian Price Arnie Prince Lee Robertson Ethen Schrimsher Gail Shaw Larry Shaw Anita Simpson Cha-Tay Spicer Mide Suke Leland Tate Jeffry Tate Tony Tate Brian Taylor Lynnette Taylor 100 LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT THE BIRDS AND THE BEES Paul Taylor Tammy Taylor Bessie Thornton Cathy Tipton Kari Todd Crieg Tomlinson Carol Truesdale Treasure Tytenicz Richard Vandever Travis Warner Kenneth Watson Mike Webb Lonnie White Gary Whitemen Joy Williams Sammy Williams Venita Williams I AND THE FLOWERS AND THE TREES . AND A THING CALLED LOVE 103 Jean Camp Sylvia Ruby Carrol Johnston Laxton McEwen Karan Defibaugh Janette Deskin Rowena Doris Henderson Hill 104 WE CARE Linda Powell Marilyn Steffenson Ted Tethers We're Teachers------and proud of it. No longer do we see our- selves as just a school teach- er but as members of a profes- sion important to our society. We're Teachers------providing learning experiences for young people that will help them live a productive, rewarding life. We're Teachers------not care- takers or jailers; proud that we have a part in shaping young lives. AND WE CARE ----About School buildings and how well they are cleaned, heated, cooled, painted, fixed, repaired, mutilated, loved or hated. ----About teacher salaries and school financing and whether they are too high, too low, too specific, too broad, too much federal, or not enough state. But most of all we care about children. Without children, we would be unnecessary. Each child is an individual with problems and triumphs, strengths and weaknesses. We care about those individualities and strive to meet each child's needs in the most appropriate way. We care that each child leaves our class and school with the knowledge and skills he needs. We care very deeply when we fall short of tnese ex- pectations. Yes, we're proud to be teach- ers, and we care. 105 Glen Abel Ricky Aynes Stacie Ballard Sheila Bentley Kelli Blackwood Dare I Brown Shannon Bryan Dawn Chandler Lisa Coffey Melissa Cohoon Eric Coleman Mitzi Collier William Denny Kim Eaves Gary Ensslin Everett Garza Curt Grant Tori Goodman Tracy Hamblin Dava Henry 106 LOOKIN' AHEAD TO NEXT YEAR Jeffery Lane Stacy Lattin Raimy Lee Barbara Little Bobby Listen Kathy Manion Christie Martin Charles Miles Raymond Mitchum Shane Neal David Nelson John Rowlen Blaine Ryals Jerry Shiebert Stacy Smiley Stephanie Stevens Tabitha Stennett Sheli Tate Monty Taylor Sherri Thomas Richard TuberviIle Melissa Unsell Larry Wayne Lonnie White Angela Williams Laura Williams Paul Williams Arthur Romero 107 David Avey Denia Barnes Larry Don Barrett Jeana Bell April Biggs Vernnetta Blair Lorrie Booth Ty Burroughs Cindy Chandler Joy Chartney Rebecca Coleman Eileen Cutright Dale Davis Kimberley Davis Leah Franklin Raymond Gosling 108 Lisa Gray PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT Greg Hagler Michael Hines Cathy Kidd Donna Kidd Trey King Jeff Little Kenneth Love Donald McCurdy Machielle McDermott Michelle Miller Scott Minnick Michaele Morrison Sean Morrissay Charlotte Myers Larry Newsom Kevin Patterson Kelly Pellman Stephanie Price Jannetta Robertson Harry Rodriguez Harvey Rodriguez Mickey Rothell Lucille Sanders Jason Scott Leah Scott Laura Sinesh Jody Skaggs Charlie Smiley April Smith Cnristine Spicer Becky Stafford Kevin Tate Cary Taylor Marvin Taylor Ronnie Thomas Trevor Warner John Weber Mark Wells Cassie Whiteman Melanie Williams 109 Steven ADbott Ronnie Arthur Lanie Askins Teresa Atterberry Karla Breckenridge Tara Bynum Jeffrey Clark Amber Cohoon Tina Coleman Patty Crockett Billy Davis Stacy Davis Patrick Dunn Tim Florer Marty Franklin Robert Goodman Carmen Grey Marla Hardee Stacey Hauser no Line Hays Donald Hensley April Houston Crystal Jones Scott Landess Jack Lane Roy Leasure Herbie Listen Jeffrey Little Mike Love Andy Maschino Heather McDaniel Brandy Miller Chris Miller Trina Miles Bryan Neal is Travis Otwell James Pellman Brett Ramsey Maria Rodriguez George Slawson Stephanie Slawson Rhonda Smith Scott Smith Richard Story Shandra Tate Mark Taylor Timothy Taylor Greg Thompson Bryan Vanaever Tabra Warren Glenna Welchel Lonnie Wheatley Donna Williams Desarae Witmer SECOND GRADE DOUBLE — TROUBLE Karen Avey Mary Brakefield Randy Ballard Kim Brown Leana Brayan Terri Collier Troy Collier Kelli Cunningham Clifford Cutright Billy Davis Karrie Davis Regina Eaves Jerry Ensslin Tommy Fike Lou Ann Gosling Tony Guinn Lorri Hamblin Donnie Hehensperger Jimmy Henman Donnie Holland Rusty Highsmith Tammi Hudson Michelle Hughes Gary James Jon Jones Brook Kelly Lee Ann Kever Michel Kidd Steven King Kris Knowles Shane Lambert Mary Lee Ricky Lee Sally Love Darren Martin Sheila Martin GETTING DOWN TO BASICS Randy McCoy Deborah McGraw Carl Meyers Tracy Miles Carmen Miller Mary Morrissey Travis Nanaeto Shawn Newson Truecella Nobles Jeff Otwell Kevin Patterson Andrea Papiakitah Shawn Pietrowiz Kelly Richmond Barry Schiebert Cory Shaw Daniel Slawson George Slawson Mary Spicer Ricky Stinnet Rovce Stinnet Holly Stutzman Darwina Wilder Brandi Williams James Williams Lonnie Williams Woodie Williams Rolanda Thompson Shane Tytenicz Darwin Wilder 113 Robyn Ball Jenny Bassett Amie Bradford Jeffrey Brown Russ Chandler Ward Chase Randy Clark Caren Coffey Shaun Coplen Brayan Cothen Jack Dooley Earlene Gibson John Greenroyd Tammy Heath Randy Hegi John Houston Shelly Kever Karla Keyes Steven Lai I Angela Listen Katrina Matkins Tamara McGee Lisa McGraw Jeremy Miller Polly Etta Mills Letha Minor Carla Myers Lance Nanaeto Rhonda Nanaeto Steve Patterson Kim Petty Raymond Pittman Jason Price Amy Pratt 114 COLOR MY WORLD WITH HOPE!!! You'll be different in only a short while, They once again said to me, You'll have troubles and trials, Things will change. Again I replied, I'll not change, will be the same. will come and go, need you and they won't, said to me, you need them —they'll be gone. I answered...... y friends won't go, they'll be here, the same. jfm the one to say, will change, never be the same. draws quickly to an end some of say good-bye to JHS; some just until and others' say a final good-bye, for they never again walk these halls. People change, friends we know so well now, may be as strangers the next time we meet. The halls of JHS also will change, yet they will still be the same. But JHS 'you're still the one and always will be.' m
