CONTENTS Dr. Ted Wilkerson Superintendent B.S. Degree, M.S. Degree, and D. Ed. Degree OSU This fine yearbook has recorded many of our memorable occasions and will cause us to remember others tucked away in the comers of our minds. As we relive our memories, let us revel in our glories and triumphs. We will remember also some of the heartaches and despair of something lost, never to be retrieved, and unavoid- able mistake or an embarrassing moment. These were learning experiences, some more pleasant than others, but from this in- dividual mixture of hope, faith, glory, despair and embarrass- ment we must learn to live a beneficial useful life. We cannot bask forever in the glory of one episode neither can we allow one mistake to collapse our world. We must learn from each of them and go forward into the years ahead with confidence that they, like those past, will bring us those things in life that make for progress and happiness. I wish to congratulate all of you on the progress you have achieved toward this goal. It is my hope that the school will continue to provide those experiences that will lead you to a greater, richer and fuller life experience. Thirty five young men and two coaches anxiously awaited, knowing well what was expected of them. A lot of hard work and a little luck goes a long way in the success of a season. The 1972 season saw a tremendous beginning, fluttered mid season, then finished on a cold, rainy, muddy evening. Luther was the first team to feel the offensive power of the Longhorns when thrashed 43 to 0. Harrah, a rival opponent of Jones, was the next team to try to stop the Longhorns but fell 13 to 6. Davenport, soon to become the Class B Champs, was overpowered by the score of 28 to 22. Mid season was here and injuries plagued the Longhorns. Fighting valiantly, the Longhorns dropped three games. They were defeated by Purcell, Heritage Hall, and St. Marys. While this was happening, injuries were healing and the important district games were coming up. Millwood, the first district encounter, fell after a hard fought game of 8 to 0. Chandler was the next team to be removed when the Longhorns squeezed by 8 to 7. This game left Jones in the drivers seat for the District Championship. With only two more games left in the regular season, the Longhorns didn’t disappoint anyone finishing off Bethany 37 to 7 and McLoud 28 to 14. This win gave Jones a perfect district record of 3-0. Winning the District Championship enabled the Longhorns to play a Bi-district game with Fairfax. Fairfax was the last team to feel the power of the Longhorns when bounced by Jones 18 to 0. This win gave Jones the Bi-District Championship, qualifying the Longhorns for the regionals. But disaster fell when the Longhorns were overpowered by Hennessey, bringing the season to an end. This was just the end of another football season for many fans, but to thirty five young men and two coaches there are many memories. Forgotten are the heartaches of losing, the bruises and hard practices. Only memories remain of how this season was one of the best in Jones football history. We set a goal and tried as hard as we could to reach that goal, but sometimes goals are very diffi- cult to reach. We aren't disappointed, only happy that God saw fit for us to go as far as we did without any serious injuries.
