Members: Harold Morse, James Foshee, and James Sturgill. Dr. Ted Wilkerson Superintendent B.S. Degree, M.S. Degree, and D. Ed. Degree OSU Challenge of Education Margaret Mead said it this way, “We are now at the point where we must educate our people in what nobody knew yesterday, and prepare in our schools for what no one knows yet, but what some people must know tomorrow.” It is evident in our recent curriculum and equipment ad- ditions that our school believes in relevant materials and in- novations. Changes pertinent to the times must be made for the adjustments of today and tomorrow. However, the past must not be forgotten or ignored as it is relevant to the fu- ture. The legends, traditions, and culture of a society have always been perpetuated by the elders of society, passed on to the younger generation. I believe education can be compared with the pyramids to the extent that the wider and stronger the base or know- ledge of the past, the higher we can build the pinnacle or knowledge of the future. We must however, not be content with the foundation of the past but press ever upward to- ward the future. We have often heard that “a building is no stronger than its foundation”; perhaps we should also stress that the value of the foundation is determined by what is built upon it. It is our fervent hope that our students build a strong foundation during their formative years here in the Jones School and continue to build toward the pinnacle of the future throughout their lifetime. Dr. Ted Wilkerson r Mr. Preston R. Keely Sr. High Principal, M.S. Degree, Student Council Co-Sponsor In his spare time, Mr. Adams finds relaxation in listening to music. He said that while he likes different types, he prefers the older music to that of today. Another of his hobbies is gardening, which he does during the summer hours. He also enjoys going on weekend excursions with his wife, learning different facts about the history of Oklahoma, for they are both history teachers. Mr. Keely is a true lover of sports. He enjoys all sports, but basketball is his favorite. A participant in sports all during his school life, he was on the Oklahoma State Univer- sity basketball team. Farming is another of his pastimes. He lives on a farm near Luther, Oklahoma, and finds many hours of enjoy- ment there. Mr. Harold L. Adams Jr. High Principal, B.S.; M.T. I took the trip around the school that I take every day, Only this time I tried to make myself be more aware Of the things around me. I saw a different school than that one of: 7 Halls I’d walked, And desks I’d sat in before. As I walked my mind began to wander. It thought about time—how it runs so fast and will not Stop for anyone. For it belongs to the sun and only the sun will determine Its destination. “Seems like yesterday,” we all seem to say. 8 I thought about different things. Of how we were friendly to all, Then came the biggest thought of all, We were happy! ■ As I walked past the classrooms, 1 didn’t see “teachers” anymore. Nor did I see “students”. Instead I saw persons who had Acquired a quantity of knowledge sharing It with those who hadn’t found it yet. As I neared the end of my trip I still wondered: Each of us is a unique individual. Each with a distinct personality. During our school lives we are all: participants and spectators, leaders and followers, dreamers and doers. mMUHITY Cl % ' ' c 13 satisfied and dissatisfied. Having a pretty voice and being in Pep Club are two enemies. Because when you’re part of the Jones High School Pep Club, you lose the pretty voice race. Before school started the Pep Club sponsored an ice cream social to encourage girls to join. That was quite an affair. After football season “Miss School Spirit” was chosen. This honor went to the girl with the most merits. The Pep Club played a big part in Homecoming this year. The band played “The Love Theme from Romeo and Juliet44, as the Pep Club formed a heart. All three of the foot- ball queen candidates were chosen from the Pep Club. They were to be members in good standing. The cheerleaders did a good job this year. Three of the girls were chosen after school had begun. This gave them a late start, but with lots of hard practice they turned out to be good cheerleaders.
