When entering campus from the west side, one of the first buildings that can be seen is the Agricultural Technology building. The Agricultural department, which is headed by R. L. Caves, teaches students on a transfer and nontransfer program. The depart- ment is divided into four sections: 1. Academic, which is a transfer pro- gramg 2. Technical Horticulture, 3. Technical Forestry, and 4. Technical Livestock. These are now transfer pro- grams. Approximately 100 students participate in all four sections of the department. The Agriculture department keeps the school farm in order and keeps approximately thirty head of cattle. Another job of the department is to help prospective students from area high schools in different sections of agriculture by holding a number of meetings throughout the year. Area high school students are also taught how to keep their cattle groomed and are assisted in preparing their cattle for area shows. A greenhouse is maintained where all types of flowers and vegetables are kept year round. Horticulture students made special arrangements for functions of the col- lege throughout the year such as for Homecoming ceremonies, teas, and banquets. Poinsettias from the green- house are used to decorate for Christ- mas programs at JCJC. 36 ! Agriculture Q, .
