PTK Activities l l i l i J While we still have time, we must ponder the interrelationship of science, tech- hology, society, and ethics as we shape our world for survival and change. Can man as we know him survive? What must he forfeit and change, and how can sci- ence and technology comply with the demands of ethics. We are told that this is :ivilization's greatest challenge ever. ls it too late to change? A radically different world may be science and technology's answer to these questions, can life remain i eaningful in it, and can man cope with its possibly unpleasant alternatives? Will an at last learn that he must live harmoniously with his environment? 5 Science and technology will control man in whatever the future's world will be. l'oday's man, foreseeing a dire world without energy, food, water and other vital resources, hopes the benefits of science and technology will be wisely chosen. Regardless of one's pursuit, these will directly effect man's moral, ethical, social, and financial decisions. This year's Phi Theta Kappa honors program is studying issues governing man's coping with the future. This theme was chosen to make Phi Theta Kappans aware of the beauty of science and technology, and their awesome potentials for good and ill already present with man. Throughout the year chapters will explore this theme in interdisciplinanary programs and assess future science's effects on man.
