SPIRIT WEEK | 1984 Student Council did an excellent job planning the 1984 spirit week. The week started October 16, with Hawaiian or Tacky Tourist day. There was a luau at both lunches, and punch was served while the band played. On Wednesday, the JCHS campus was covered with punk rockers, and people dressed as their op- posite sex. At lunch the JCHS Greyhound chased the Dodge Co. Indian and, when caught, the Indian was locked up for the night. Thursday was Hunter or Mourning day. Students came dressed as hunters or in funeral clothes to mourn the hanging of the Dodge In- dian. At lunch the Indian was hanged and buried in the schoolyard. Friday was the traditional purple and goid day. The afternoon was filled with excitement, as there was a pep rally followed by a city wide parade. The 1984 Spirit Week was truly one of the best ever!! JCHS TALENT SHOW The Talent Show presented a new format this year. Contestants were divided into four categories of com- petition. These categories included dance, vocal, in- strumental and a miscellaneous category. This year's winners were the Happy Feet Cloggers in the dance category, Tarshena Shuler in the instrumental category, Wendy Williams and Rodney Lester in the vocal category, and Sherry Webb, Shannon Webb, and DeAnn Bivins in the miscellaneous category. The overall prize was given to Wendy Williams and Rodney Lester. A standing room only crowd was presented a magnifi- cent show. WHITE CHRISTMAS The White Christmas program in 1984 was somewhat different from past White Christmas pro- grams. It was centered around favorite Christmas stories and featured several skits and Christmas carols. The Senior Class of 1985 did a great job! SONG, i it fh HM UII LION Oa Be At first glance, the yearbook is just a book with pictures of Jones County students. Some people like the book and some don’t. But before you judge the book, let’s se e the work involved in producing a 232 page yearbook and raising the $16,000 to pay for it. We began the 1985 Growl last year while still in school. For weeks we talked about a theme and finally decided on one—“‘It’s a Matter of PRIDE.’’ We worked during the summer getting copy ready, deciding on what pictures to take, and finding the right lay-outs to use. Sounds easy ?? Try staying up until 4:00 a.m. deciding on the right lay-out! Remember we have to agree or at least most of us. When school started we worked everyday until Feb. 21 when | turned in this last page. The staff still had more copy to write on every section, lay-outs to draw, pictures to take. We had to draw every single page. Toward the end of each dead-line we worked mornings, after school, nights, and even over the weekends. We put a lot more work in the yearbook than people imagine. We do our best to produce a good book for the school, but some still complain. The staff can’t please everyone, but we still try to. We hope you do enjoy the book because we are proud of our accomplishment and take PRIDE in it! Kendra Wooden, Editor-in-chief 1984-1985 UMNDOGLAK
