DOWN YDS. 10 60 iy Cy epey en epenenene HE An I,D, Bracelet changes hands and a figure, tall broadshouldered strides quickly down the hall. Then comes the sound of sobbing only half-muffled by small, finely-shaped hands, The huddle breaks; the teams get ready for the play. Suddenly a weaving, dodging, twisting figure hurtles into the clear, running all out under the bright lights, He crosses a white line, content now to drop his precious prize. The crowd roars, TOUCH- DOWNI!! Because it is not only a law of physics, but also a law of life, this year’s Growl Staff has chosen as its theme Newton’s Law For every ACTION There is ... REACTION. TOUCHDOWN! The crowd roars! All sports are filled with action and reaction, probably more obviously than any other phase of school life. Not only the players, but also the crowd and cheer- leaders have shown enthusiasm, tears, and other emotions throughout the year. A bright flash ... a click of the shutter... a picture has been taken. An action has been captured; the reaction will be released when you look at these pictures. Surprise, Mrs, Pulliam! Andy, Ann, Julie, and Penny pose for a picture on the Capitol steps. Guess when! ‘GENCY Door ns Alt : | ii i ii , iii No football game, basketball game, or pep rally would be complete without our Alma Mater. Likewise this yearbook would be lacking an important element without it. ALMA MATER On the city's western border, Reared against the sky, Proudly stands our Alma Mater, As the years go by. Forward ever be our watchword, Conquer and prevail, Hail to thee our Alma Mater, J.C. H.S., all hail. Students, students, students, running to and fro like so many ants, Students sitting in classrooms, running to lunch, talking, fight- ing, laughing, always on the go. Wherever they are, whatever they're doing, the students make their school. From the youngest freshest seventh grader to the oldest most somber senior, the students represent their school ... they are the school, Without the students the school has no purpose, no being; it is just an empty shell with no feeling. Then the students come and the school is alive with joys, sorrows, laughter, and tears. Because the yearbook is a pictorial history of the school year, the Yearbook staff is proud to dedicate the 1970 Growl to you... the Student Body of Jones County High School ... the Greyhounds. Jim Carpenter, President of Brillo Pads Inc. , discusses business with Ponder Childs, now owner of the Purina Chow Mills and Ed Gochenour owners of Gochenour Groceries. As we move toward the dining room, we see Linda Griffin talking to Bea Rozier. Linda is master of ceremonies of the Hi-Q program on TV. Bea sponsors the show with her honey from the Famous Bea Honey Farms. Now in the dining room we see the place of honor at the head of the table has been reserved for Ronnie Holloway, United States Champion Pie Eater. But wait a moment, a helper has just informed me that Karen Conn, head chef of the kitchen, has burned our Bettye Crocker supper. So it will be delayed quite a bit. So until next reunion remember: “NONE SO HEAVENLY AS THE CLASS OF 1970 Life!
