Its aim as stated in the original write up is to promote oratorical, social, and literary activities in the school. The Annual banquet has been an outstand- ing event since its organization. A RESUME OF COLLEGE ATHLETICS Football Prospects for a third straight state championship in football were very poor after an untied and undefeated team in 1941. So thought Coach John J. Read and Assistant Coach B. L. Graham as the 1942 football season arrived. Only four reserves were back. as most of the '41 team was in the armed services. A scoreless tie with Perk- inston preceded the only defeat of the season handed the Bobcats. It was 12 to 7 in favor of Goodman. After brilliant wins over the rest of the teams. the Bobcats fin- ished second only to Perkinston, who refused to play off the tie in a post-season game. After the season was over. however, the Bobcats played a swell game against Alabama Freshmen, but lost 12 to 0. Roster-Alford, Blackledge, Brown, Beach, Dillard, Farris, Ford, Goodson, Hight, Hawkins, Howard, Kelly, McCallum, Miller, Montgomery, J. Smith, T. Smith, J. Batte, Mgr. Basketball The Jones County Junior College Basketball team is the Unofficial State Champion team of 1943. There was no State Junior College tournament this year, but the Bob- cats won more games than any other Junior College, 12 out of 15 games for the season. The team was led by Harold Kelly and W. T. Blackledge who averaged 14 and 12 points per game respectively. Aiding these two boys in the fine showing that the team made this season were Clyde Hight, George Allen, Vondell Graham, Les- lie Stephenson, Rudolph Smith, Henry Bucklew, Roy Brown, and Bobby Rayburn.
