MEMORIES IN MOTION Jonathan Dayton Regional High School are words that possess such an awesome connotation to the timid eyes of incoming young freshmen. Yet, these words are also respected and admired by so many. Now we know after perennial sojurns through the crowded hallways that Dayton is a col- ossal melting pot of memories. If we stop and think, it is amazing and ironic that this dreaded, respected and glorified haven of adolescence is our catapult into the social and intellectual worlds. It is the individual, however, that makes Dayton what it is and will ever be. For we are diverse. Different in infinite varieties. A mold so incredibly rich in personal attributes and individuality that if we don ' t stop and consider ourselves once in awhile, we just might miss out on the biggest and best times of our entire lives. So, as simple advice to most significantly remember your glory days at this institution, look not to particular events of materialistic forthcomings, but to yourselves, and how much we, as in- dividuals, have gained, changed, and witnessed within these halls. And also remember, no matter what you may perceive at the commencement of a radical and new transition, the end result will most certainly please as well as amaze the most pessimistic and cynical of observers, for within ourselves is the potential to ac- complish any goal we may set out to achieve, no matter how intangible it may first appear. Life goes by pretty quickly. If you don ' t stop and think once in a while, You just might miss it. l 16 SENIORS 17 JOANNA LAROSA ABES MJLA-JO SO COMPLETELY AMAZING •BOWLING BALL CUT ' ,OK-UC-JD-3? God gets even with the wicked! Fear, respect, love. These are some of the emotions that come into students ' minds when the name of Miss Linda Duke is mentioned. Her sincere interest in her students, her knowledge of the subject matter, her lively and creative teaching methods and her love of Dayton are just a few of the reasons that Miss Duke was voted teacher of the year. Students, teachers and administrators all feel that Miss Duke deserved this award. Just think of what Dayton would be missing if Miss Duke was not here. History classes would certainly not be as challanging or stimulating. Homecoming Dances would not be as much fun or exciting. Miss Duke is able to motivate students in both classes and extra- curricular activities. Dayton students, teachers, and ad- ministrators certainly know when we have a good thing go- ing. That is why we voted Miss Duke teacher of the year! Miss Duke makes a point. Only five weeks behind in marking papers, Miss Duke tries to catch up. 59 Senior Superlatives su-per-la-tive (su-per-let-iv) adj. -1. the utmost degree of something 2. an unsurpassed levelor extent 3. supreme 4. of very high quality. cl own (klaun) N. 1 . a fool, jester, or comedian 2. a rude ill bred person 3. a joker 4. Loaded with talented returning starters, the team was the pre-season pick to capture the conference championship. The team defeated Clark for the third consecutive year, bringing home the Gnico Bowl trophy for good. Next, the Dawgs romped on Hillside 41-14. The team was on their way to a third victory against Roselle when a con- troversial pass interference call led to a final-play defeat. Then as in years past, the Bulldogs, crippled by in- juries, limped through one of the toughest schedules in the area, highlighted by a 33-0 victory over Manville to close out the home season. Several players were named to all star teams. Third year starter John Lusardi was named All Con- ference, Area Top 50, and Third Team All County at the position of outside linebacker. Tony Policare, who led (Jnion County in TD passes, was named on every all star team at quarterback, Second Team All Metro, All County, All Conference, Area Top 50, and was named one of the state ' s top five junior quarterback prospects. Mark Williams was the leading touchdown receiver in (Jnion County and was named Second Team All Conference, All County, All Metro, and Area Top 50. Jeff Stoffer was named First Team All Con- ference, and Third Team All County in his second year at inside linebacker. Honorable mention All Conference players also included Robert Fusco at tailback, Jim Ruban at guard, and Danny Francis and Bill Quandt at defensive line. Best of luck to the graduating Dayton players and wishes of continual success for the team. Even after losing both a large number of seniors to graduation, and its veteran coach, Joe Cozza, the 1986 Varsity Soccer Team finished with a successful season. Under first year coach, Frank Ortiz, Dayton ' s final record was 10-6-2. Through the leadership of Captains Jeff Levy, and Dave Kadesh, and seniors Jim Kellerk, Dave Blackwell, Gary Millin, and Anthony Fiocco, the Bulldogs were able to put forth an excellent ef- fort. However, the team unfortunate- ly was hampered by a few injuries of key players, such as Dave Blackwell and Dave Kadesh. These problems affected the team ' s overall per- fomance and final record. The Bull- dogs were upset in the first round of the State Tournament despite one goal scored by Jim Kellerk in the first round of a sudden death shootout. The team had many stoundouts this year, and fortunately some are re- turning next year. Best of luck, and continued success for the years to come. The Dayton Girls ' s Varsity Soc- cer Team was very successful this season. Their record of 8- 9-1 marked a considerable dif- ference from last year ' s record of 6-12. The Lady Bulldogs not only had an outrageous scheduled season, but they were also chosen and involved in County and State Tour- naments. The Girls have not been involved in these tour- naments for quite some time. Congratulations! Mr. Arthur Krupp and Mr. John Kovolisky did a super job in coaching. Senior Co-Captains Colleen Delaney, Suzanne Crane and Gina Messano, along with other seniors Pam Pangos, Carolyn Engert and Rita Lombardi, led the team to victory. Junior Standouts were Debby Montemurno and Maria Buckley. Suprisingly, the freshman outnumbered the up- perclassmen. Lauren Meixner, Cathy Padden, Candice Mathews and Valerie Rau con- tributed a great deal to the team. Three Girls were picked for All-Conference this year. Colleen Delaney was selected to the First Team All- Conference as a forward. It was an excellent performance. The play, written by Agatha Christie is about an old woman who is murdered by a friend of hers to receive an inheritance. In order to catch the murderer, the police trick him by saying that the murderer ' s ex-wife did it. CAST Thomas Royde . . . Greg Saliceti Kay Strange . . . Justine Chrystal Mary Aldin . . . Christmas Caroling, Fall, Winter, and Spring Con- certs, Music Festival Competition at Montreal, pumpkin sales and the Dayton musical Anything Goes certainly kept the Vocal Music students ex- tremely busy. Learning proper vocal techniques and performing a wide variety of songs are the major goals of the students of instructor Mrs. Brenda Kay. Students are able to strengthen their singing talents by performing both classical and popular music. A greater appreciation of music and musicians is also learned by the vocal music students. With the thrill of performing and the greater skills learned, the students at Dayton find the Vocal Music Depart- ment an important aspect of school life. •r Michael Crowley and Suzanne Crane make beautiful music together. 144 Top Row: David Brooks, Steven Matrick, Barry Titlebaum, Glen Kneirm, Matt Wasylk, Glen Miske. The 1986-1987 Marching Band The Jonathan Dayton Marching Band has had yet another successful season under the direction of Mr. Mar- tin Friedman. Despite its small size (boasting a grand total of only three seniors), the band proved itself to be ex- cellent in competition, placing well in all the contests it attended this year. The band is under the leadership of Drum Majorette Robin Goodman; Co-Captains of the Guard, Irina Schlaffman and Stephanie Ruelke; and Cap- tain of Percussion Louis Drucks. The soloists this year are senior Chris Hannauer and junior Steve Dorian. As they did last year, Mr. Friedman and the band members spent a great deal of time with this years marching band show. The time was not wasted, though; this year turned out to be one of the best ever! It is through the Concert Band that stu- dent musicians are able to improve their musical skills the most. They are challenged constantly to perform at their absolute best. This group is under the direction of Mr. Martin Friedman and performs three times each year, at the Winter and Spring Concerts and at graduation. The Concert Band in action. The group practices one night a week, and performs at the Winter and Spring Concerts. Finger painting was a real messy hit this year and everyone ' s favorite part of the day was snack time. To end this exciting event for all, the girls had the children make projects for themselves and take them home.
