By the time Sophomore Year rolled around, our enthusiasm had lessened. However, we were still will- ing to accumulate knowledge. 1984 brought us to our junior Year. Schoolwork was an underlying in- terest; overpowered by thoughts of driving and the prom. As Seniors, our attitudes toward learning changed. This change is exemplified by the facial expressions of the Seniors pic- tured here. We ' ve now got v The Look, ' of eagerness to broaden our horizons and expand upon our dimensions. This disease is called Senioritis. These students are more con- cerned with socializing than with stri ving for higher academic achievements. Cutting and talking in class are just two examples of this apathy that is becoming an epidemic. Although parents and teachers do not appreciated this behavior, Dayton students look forward to becoming a part of the tradition. It is vital that teenagers establish good social habits as well as intellectual pursuits. Senioritis may be unfortunate for teachers but, sometimes you ' ve just gotta say, What the Mitch Stein breaks into Dayton ' s grade system lean Dachnowicz and Sue Collyer strut their stuff down the hall. Danielle Weisse listens intently while Senior Year is a very impor- tant year in a student ' s high school career. All of a sudden, seniors are hit with many im- portant decisions. They finally realize that all of their grades from the past four years really count. As they are applying to different colleges, some seniors may discover that all of their hard work has paid off, while others may regret that they did not work up to their full poten- tial. )ust a word of advice to the underclassmen — Work hard now, so you do not regret it later. STUDENT COUNCIL IGNITES SPIRIT This year, the institution known as the Student Council, did its best to ignite school spirit and make the rigors of school a little more bearable. In- stead of a Fall Festival being held, a pep rally was organized and run by the Student Council. In addi- tion, when the Boys ' Soccer Team went to the state finals the Student Council, with the help of Miss Duke and Caitlin Haughey, organized buses that transported students to the game. The big event of the year sponsored by the Council was a dance coupled with a lip synch con- test. In order to break the monotonous grind of the average school day, the Council planned several small events that included the Hawaiian Beach Day and Nerd Day. Spreading love throughout the school in the form of red, heart-shaped cookies, the Council ' s shot at playing Cupid appeared to be a major fun and fund raiser. Responsible for the success and increased Student Council activity was Mrs. Cusumano, the faculty advisor, officers: Greg Torborg, Jim Roberts, Doug Maher, Maureen Barisonek, and the entire body of Student Council Representatives. The 1985 season was one of disappointment for the Bulldogs. After losing only five starters from last year ' s state playoff team, the Dawgs were pick- ed early in the season to win the championship. However, the injury plagued Bulldogs limped through one of the toughest schedules in the county, which included three state championship teams, Hillside, Immaculata, and Brearley. Dayton lost many close, heartbreaking games throughout the season. For example an 8-7 loss to Hillside with 30 seconds remaining, a 21 - 20 loss to Verona after leading 20-6 in the fourth quarter, a 14-7 loss to Im- maculata after a 7-0 halftime lead was wiped out because of four key injuries, and a 6-0 rain soaked loss to Brearley after a controversial call brought back a Bulldog touchdown. But the season was full of highlights, also. Dayton ' s opening day win was the first time in years over a New Providence team. The Dawgs went on to beat Clark for their second straight Unico Bowl win. Also, Dayton beat Roselle on a 30 yard touchdown pass to John Lusardi from an indured Darren laione. Another big accomplishment, the Bulldogs were the leading passing team in the county, thanks to sophomore quarterback Tony Policare and receivers Levent Bayrasli, Greg Torborg, Tom Kisch, and John Lusardi. Darren laione and Bayrasli formed one of the most explosive backfields in the area. Chris Clemson, Jeff Stoffer, Robert Fusco were outstanding on defense, while Steve Burton and Shane Connell led the Offensive Line. Chris Dooley was a consistent place kicker, and Rob O ' Neill played superbly in his many roles. Dayton looks to have a strong squad next year with many starters returning. Greg Torborg was called out of the end zone on this controversial play. 85 ALL THE WAY TO THE STATES! Two of the most memorable games were those played against Hillside and Plainfield. Colleen Delaney scoring a hat-trick in one and goalie Ann Lissy playing superb in the other. Junior Sue Crane received 2nd team all con- ference honors, while junior Col- leen Delaney and seniors Mario Coddington and Dawn Pohlman received Honorable Mention in the Mountain Valley Conference. Last year the Bulldogs swept Hillside and beat the strong teams of Newark ' s East Side, Middlesex, Roselle Catholic, Roselle Park and Roselle. Also, the Bulldogs ' victory over the state-ranked Millburn at the end of the year was a sign of things to come. This year, the 1986 team will be strong in all areas of the game, and fans can expect a standout season. Darren laione, Myles Carter, Rob O ' Neill, Steve Burton, Greg Torborg, Tom Kisch, Shane Connell 108 ■v Shane Connell Steve Burton Myles Carter Where ' s the game?? ' Greg Torborg 109 This season will be a rebuilding one for the Dayton Bulldog Softball team. With only four starters returning from last year ' s squad and the loss of all-state pitcher Sharon Kutsop, the Bulldogs will be depending on hard work and devo- tion for a successful season. On the mound will be sophomore Dana Fischer and assisting her will be Colleen Delaney and Yvonne Ray. All-State se- cond baseman Dawn Pohlman will be returning to the infield with Mario Cod- dington, Colleen Delaney, Maureen Barisonek, and underclassmen Staci Weinerman and Maryann Lopapa. The outfield will be led by junior Jeannie Perrotta in center field along with Lisa Augusta, Pam Panagos, and Barbara Carpency. The lady Bulldogs will be ex- pecting to be a strong hitting team and for this catcher Susan Crane will be depended upon. With the positive at- titude shown by the Bulldogs there is no doubt that they will be number one!!! What sport is better suited for the Dayton student? OK, realistically, there are only a select few who participate on the Dayton Golf team. These fine athletes are truly privileged in more than one way. First, they are able to benefit from the good coaching and in- finite wisdom of Coach Ray Yan- chus. Largely due to his willingness to lend his vast knowledge of the game to the students, Dayton Golf has been and will continue to be a success. Golfers at Dayton are further privileged since they are able to play at Baltusrol, a P.G.A. cham- pionship golf course. This course nas been the site of many profes- sional tournaments. The challenge of such a tough course provides the team with tremendous ex- perience and allows them to sharpen their skill. This gives the edge to the Bulldogs both at home ana away, when they play on the easier public course. The 1986 Golf Team _i- -- : A perfec I swing by Mark Wance. These returning State champions are preparing for what they hope will be their most successful season. Last year, the team, under Coach Dellicano, ended the season with a 20-3 record. The team ranked 20th in the state and 2nd in the county. Seniors Eric Kahn and Jeff Ginsburg and juniors Jeff Levy and Greg Kahn all received All- Conference and All-State honors. These players, with their talents and skills, are expected to equal or surpass their awards. Joining these champions are senior Adam Jacobs, sophomore Eric In- cadella and freshman Jamie Schram. This year, one of the team ' s major matches will be against Governor Liv- ingston. The team hopes to gain revenge over G.L. since they beat the Dayton team in the conference last year. Good luck to a team that has displayed a great deal of talent and skill! Eric Kahn Where is the net? 115 BOYS SPRING INTO AN AMAZING SEASON Amazing!!! In one word, that was Dayton Boys ' Spring Track season. Led by captains Walter Jackson and Gary Francis, Dayton Track outclassed its competition by the widest of margins. The talented group of athletes assembl- ed under the direction of Coach William Billy Byrne, out-threw, out-leaped, and out-ran its competition, making Dayton a very strong competitor for Mountain Valley Conference Honors. The team consisted of hurdlers Mike Barisonek, Tom Miskewitz led by All- World Walter Jackson. The sprints were run by John Sakella, Levent Bayrasli, and a host of other fine runners. The middle distance runners were paced by senior captain Gary Francis. Distance runners were led by seniors Jim Pieper, Bruce Oberhand, and Jim Roberts with tremendous help from the clutch runn- ing of Jim Kellerk. The field events were anchored by the fine performances of Levent Bayrasli and Jim Ruban. A special thanks to Coaches Byrne, Cozza, Ortez, without whom, the AMAZING season would have never been! The 1 986 Boys ' Spring Track Team Coach Cozza and Water Jackson give advice to the runners. Captains Walter Jackson and Gary Francis prepare to run. 116 GIRLS: CONSISTENTLY FINE RUNNERS The 1 986 Girls ' Spring Track Team Mrs Comerci and the senior girls look too pretty to run! Consistent. Like fine clockwork, Dayton Girls ' Track passed their com- petition as though their foes stood still. Following the examples of the captains, Dayton Girls ' Track embarrassed op- ponents who looked like time had just passed over. Under the auspicious guidance of Head Coach Kozub, the Dayton Girls just could not be stopped. Time after time the Dayton girls ran over opponents causing a stir in the con- ference standings and with the possibili- ty of a title in the making. Led by the winged feet of Laura Bass, the sprinters just plainly ran away from the competi- tion. Hurdlers led by Ute Patsch and Kathy Beyer were the obstacles other teams faced. Middle distance was a strong point for Dayton with Tara McGrath and Elizabeth Pabst setting the speed. The strong point of the team was created by Tracey Biber, Sue Rauschenberger, and Providence Wissel who marched on past all other opposing distance runners. The field events were the domain of Lauren Arnold, Ann Marie Lissy, and Kathy Beyer, with help from Necie Murray. A sincere thanks from the team to Coaches Kozub, Cozza, Ortez and Comerci for their guidance and patience. CILO: OUR TEACHER OF THE YEAR This year the Regional School District made something official that Dayton students have known for years. Mrs. Patricia Cilo, one of Dayton ' s English teachers, was named Teacher of the Year. Congratulations to a very worthy and respected teacher. Mrs. Cilo is noted for her intelligence, creativity, fairness, sense of humor and dedication. Her knowledge of her subject matter and her sincere interest in her students make her classes stimulating, challenging, dynamic and fun. For sixteen years, Mrs. Cilo has tortured Regional High students with her com- position assignments. Although we, her students, will constantly complain about the work she inflicts upon us, we know that Mrs. Cilo is certainly preparing us for the future. Thanks, Mrs. Cilo! Congratulations are in order once again! 7 B . r. m ■ £!■W Miss Romano and Mr. David Hart, Board Member congratulate Mrs. Cilo.
