Mr. William Byrne World Literature English 1 and 2 Effective Writing M I Mr. John Cafone English 1 and 2 Yearbook Mystery and Adventure Mrs. Virginia Cartus English 1 WORDS TO LIVE BY ENGLISH Our English curriculum consists of a wide variety of courses. Freshman English students concentrate on grammar skills, while sophomores read novels such as Huckleberry Finn, The Scarlet Letter, and A Farewell to Arms. Cpperclassmen may select English Literature since 1800 and learn about such celebrated poets as Keats, Byron, and Shelley. Also, all students enroll in the mandatory course of Effec- tive Writing, in which improvements on composition skills are stressed. Other in- teresting areas include Language, Thought, and Behavior, which deals with man ' s daily use of language and it ' s effect on his behavior, Media, Mystery and Adven- ture, and Sports Literature. The Dayton English Department continues to offer a wide variety of choices for the diverse interests of all its students.
