WE ARE BEING PREPARED B. Sale, M. Ulbrich, L. Stewart. ROW 1: V. Marx, D. Cassak, V. Baldwin. ROW 2: M. Tag- lienti, A. Balshan, C. Franchino. The business world has much to offer, but only those students who have been ably prepared can really derive its benefits. Our business depart- ment provides practice on office machinery. In addition it operates a Distributive Education pro- gram in which students attend school in the morning, receiving on the spot training in in- dustry in the afternoon. Teaching the skills of successful homemaking is the concern of the Home Economics Department. Girls learn to prepare food, tailor clothes, and or- ganize an efficient home. All students have the opportunity to be prepared for future occupations upon graduation. MARY ANN ULBRICH, D.C. ELEANOR MURPHY, D.C. Not the whole box! ' ' Who said that? ' 10

AND ENRICHED BY THE ARTS If the purpose of education were to prepare students academ- ically only there would be no need for a Fine Arts Department. Our student body would be merely book-toters ; senior plays would be unheard of. Jonathan Dayton is concerned about this aspect, as evidenced by our admirable music, art, and drama department. Mr. Blecker, our instrumental music teacher, is doing a highly commendable job with the marching and concert bands. Stu- dents can receive both elementary and advanced instruction on many instruments. Mr. Edgerton, our new vocal music teacher, has been doing an equally fine job in developing and coordinating musical skills. Artistically inclined students turn to our Art Department, head- ed by Mr. Brodman. They receive instruction in basic funda- mentals and can experiment creatively in art classes and Art Workshop. The Dramatics Department under Mr. Trinity helps students develop effective speaking and dramatic skills. Speech and Drama courses prove beneficial and enjoyable. EDWARD BROWN, D.C. ART D. Brodman, M. Shereshewsky. DRAMATICS J. Denham, J. Trinity. MUSIC 17 L. Blecker, R. Edgerton.

FOR CAREERS IN MANY FIELDS ROW 1: R. Abram, A. Rothbard. ROW 2: E. Metz, H. Hassel. The Agriculture program at Dayton is unique in that it is the only one of its kind in Union, Essex and Morris counties. Ag prepares a student for continued study in college or for enter- ing fields of Agricultural endeavor immediately upon gradua- tion from high school. The students not only learn the scien- tific aspects of agriculture but also various farm procedures and the essentials of successful farm management. A basic knowledge of the arts of working with wood and metal is taught at Dayton, and in addition, mechanical drawing, graph- ic arts, and printing. The skills learned in Industrial Arts can be used not only on the job but also practically in the home. A. LaSota, Ag. STANLEY GROSSMAN, D.C. P. Danilo, Ag. 19
