US FOR FUTURE VOCATIONS C. Taglienti, E. Sales MARY ANN ULBRICH, D.C. In the past a young girl was taught the arts of cooking, sewing, and managing a home by her mother. Today it is the job of the school ' s Home Economics Department to teach girls these skills. The aims of this department are to prepare our future wives and mothers to meet the problems of running a home successfully, and to interest some of them in Home Economics as a possible career. Just put in a safety pin and leave me alone. ' The Industrial Arts courses given at Jonathan Dayton cover a wide variety of topics, not only giving the student a basic of the arts of working with wood or metal, but also mechanical drawing, printing, and the graphic arts. Skills that are conveyed to the students as part of these courses assist not only on the job, but also in the home, where a great deal of expense can be saved by the skilled work- er in wood. SPECIAL COURSES PREPAR ADAM LaSOTA PETER DANILLO ' Are you some kind of wise-guy: The Agriculture or Ag program as it is known to Dayton stu- dents, under the able leadership of Mr. Peter Danilo and Mr. Adam LaSota, strives to prepare and train the students for futures on the farm. Not only do the boys learn various farm working proced- ures, but they also learn the essentials of successful farm manage- ment. The Ag program is unique also, in that it is the only one of its kind in Union, Essex, and Morris countries. The teachers in the Business Department function in developing in each student those skills which will aide him in obtaining employment in the field of work that most appeals to him. For the benefit of Juniors and Seniors, speakers, from various business organizations are invited to the school to convey the merits and types of their businesses to interested students. The Distributive Education program is unique in that it offers students on-the-job training. Students attend classes for a half day, and in the afternoon they receive practical training and experience. These jobs are arranged for them so that the students will be paid as they are gaining their education. Those taking advantage ot the course are well prepared to face the problems of a business career and to meet competition, and thus they are directed toward a more successful career. STANDING: M.
