THE ARTS LIVE EDWARD BROWN, DC. J. Denham The fine arts, represented at Regional by the Art, Music, and Dramatics Departments, promote cultural appreciation in our school. These Departments collaborate in such productions as the annual operetta, concerts, and plays. This year the Music Department boasts a new instrumental music teacher, Mr. Lynn Blecker, and a new major subject, Music Theory, taught by Mr. William Peters. The students of Regional have the opportunity to participate in any of the five vocal groups as well as the Concert and Dance Bands. The Art Department offers courses ranging from Crafts I to Ad- vanced Art and provides interesting displays of the work of stu- dents in the showcases in the halls. This year the Art Workshop made the costumes for the Senior Play as well as the scenery for the other school productions. The Dramatics Department offers many courses including two levels of Speech and Dramatics and advanced classes in both dramatics and public speaking. 17

LANGUAGES AND STANDING: H. Rogers, G. Bickneli SEATED: M. Capotosta, L. Fried lander, B. Tibbetts, L. Hart. MIS SING: R. Freda, L. Sarwin. In our modern society, it has become more and more important to unite the peoples of the world by establishing common beliefs, interests, and motivations. Perhaps the key to this action is simply understanding and speaking a foreign tongue and becoming well- acquainted with the area in which it is spoken and its inhabitants. The Language Department of Regional provides not only instruc- tion as to the usage and grammar of Latin, Spanish, French and German, but, also, introduces us to the people of the land, their customs, culture, and their civilization, past and present. Films, records, magazines, newspapers, and other audio-visual aids are available to the student. The most valuable asset to the language department, however, is the language laboratory. Here, the stu- dent has the opportunity to improve his accent and to develop and cultivate the language for conversational purposes. The student is also encouraged to join one of many language clubs; French Club, German Club, El Circulo Espanol, and Romani Hodierni. Rangez vos pupitres! 16

SPECIAL COURSES PREPAR ADAM LaSOTA PETER DANILLO ' Are you some kind of wise-guy: The Agriculture or Ag program as it is known to Dayton stu- dents, under the able leadership of Mr. Peter Danilo and Mr. Adam LaSota, strives to prepare and train the students for futures on the farm. Not only do the boys learn various farm working proced- ures, but they also learn the essentials of successful farm manage- ment. The Ag program is unique also, in that it is the only one of its kind in Union, Essex, and Morris countries. The teachers in the Business Department function in developing in each student those skills which will aide him in obtaining employment in the field of work that most appeals to him. For the benefit of Juniors and Seniors, speakers, from various business organizations are invited to the school to convey the merits and types of their businesses to interested students. The Distributive Education program is unique in that it offers students on-the-job training. Students attend classes for a half day, and in the afternoon they receive practical training and experience. These jobs are arranged for them so that the students will be paid as they are gaining their education. Those taking advantage ot the course are well prepared to face the problems of a business career and to meet competition, and thus they are directed toward a more successful career. STANDING: M.
