LANGUAGES AND STANDING: H. Rogers, G. Bickneli SEATED: M. Capotosta, L. Fried lander, B. Tibbetts, L. Hart. MIS SING: R. Freda, L. Sarwin. In our modern society, it has become more and more important to unite the peoples of the world by establishing common beliefs, interests, and motivations. Perhaps the key to this action is simply understanding and speaking a foreign tongue and becoming well- acquainted with the area in which it is spoken and its inhabitants. The Language Department of Regional provides not only instruc- tion as to the usage and grammar of Latin, Spanish, French and German, but, also, introduces us to the people of the land, their customs, culture, and their civilization, past and present. Films, records, magazines, newspapers, and other audio-visual aids are available to the student. The most valuable asset to the language department, however, is the language laboratory. Here, the stu- dent has the opportunity to improve his accent and to develop and cultivate the language for conversational purposes. The student is also encouraged to join one of many language clubs; French Club, German Club, El Circulo Espanol, and Romani Hodierni. Rangez vos pupitres! 16

THE ARTS LIVE EDWARD BROWN, DC. J. Denham The fine arts, represented at Regional by the Art, Music, and Dramatics Departments, promote cultural appreciation in our school. These Departments collaborate in such productions as the annual operetta, concerts, and plays. This year the Music Department boasts a new instrumental music teacher, Mr. Lynn Blecker, and a new major subject, Music Theory, taught by Mr. William Peters. The students of Regional have the opportunity to participate in any of the five vocal groups as well as the Concert and Dance Bands. The Art Department offers courses ranging from Crafts I to Ad- vanced Art and provides interesting displays of the work of stu- dents in the showcases in the halls. This year the Art Workshop made the costumes for the Senior Play as well as the scenery for the other school productions. The Dramatics Department offers many courses including two levels of Speech and Dramatics and advanced classes in both dramatics and public speaking. 17
