Dottie Phillips, Sales Manager; and Alma Hostetler, Business Manager. Carol Johnson and Katie Plank, Typists. The purpose of the 1963 Powder Horn Staff has been to preserve for the student body a record of the fun and work activities at Jonathan Alder High School. We hope that you enjoy the book as much as we have enjoyed preparing it. Carol Schwartzwalder, Editor Yvonna Bryant, Asst. Editor Mrs. Dorothy Sayre, Advisor Dianne Fry, Photographer Staff gives Mrs. Sayre a planter. The Yearbook Staff This POWDER HORN is dedicated to Miss Elizabeth Barto in appreciation of her twelve years as a student and thirty-eight years as a teacher, leader, advisor, and friend of our young people. Fifty Golden Years” in the schools of our community have linked the name of Eliz- abeth Barto with all that is good in our educational program. Fathers and sons, mothers and daughters have benefited from her guidance and teaching. Board of Education The goal of Jonathan Alder High School is to impart that knowledge, build those skills, form those habits, develop those attitudes, and practice that way of living which will make good cit- izens - present and future. Jonathan Alder is proud of its Board of Education. The members give freely of their time and effort without tangible recompense. They serve both community and school. Their decisions show wisdom, tolerance, and progressive thinking. We wish to thank them for helping, in great measure, to make and keep the Alder district respected by educators and loved by its students. GILBERT KIRBY Clerk-Treasurer GLENN DILLION AUSTIN HARBAGE Administration G. E. OXLEY Principal’s Message To many persons in the community, the yearbook is an eye-opener. The ever- increasing functions of the modern secondary school can be shown to the community through a good yearbook. The Powder Horn is a story and picture example of good sportsmanship, good citizenship, good fun, good scholarship, and good friends that will be remembered long after school is over. Congratulations, Mrs. Sayre, and staff of Powder Horn. GORDON E. OXLEY Principal Superintendent’s Message Educational attainment is dependent upon the extent to which the student accepts the opportunities offered by our schools. Teach- ing staff, curriculum, and facilities are ineffective if the student does not supply the individual effort. The publication of this yearbook is evidence that individual and group effort lead to success. GEORGE R. ROBINSON Executive Head MRS.
