And though far from thee we may wander, Our thoughts shall ever be of thee. Through all life's happiness and sorrow, Our hearts with love shall never lack. Devoted to the Alma Mater and to the scarlet and the black. To Alder do we raise our voices A symbol of our comradeship. Tho there be victories and failures. We'll meet them with good sportsmanship. Our loyalty and dedication, A mixture of our joy and pride. May Alder ever lead us onward Oh, hail to Alder High. THE POWDER HORN The name for the annual was decided upon by the student body and annual staff of 1956-1957. Each home room voted upon names chosen by them. These names were then submitted to the annual staff. The staff chose the name Powder Horn which was submitted by the senior class of 1957, By Judy Woods By Judy Woods A contest for choosing an alma mater for our school was held at the beginning of the school year, 1956. It was open to anyone of the community. An entrant must compose only the words or the words plus the music. A prize of $10 was awarded the winner. This Second Edition of the Powder Horn reflects the wonderful spirit of a grand student body and serves as a permanent record of the a- chievements of the new Jonathan Alder High School. Treasure this book - the memories it contains will become more dear to you with each passing year. Congratulations to Mrs. Sayre and the Staff of the Powder Horn. The student body and faculty can be proud of the 1958 editidh of their school yearbook. The Powder Horn is a record, both print- ed and pictorial, that will increase in value with age. It is my wish that the experiences, hard work, and honest effort made by the sponsor and the staff of the 1958 Pow- der Horn will always be pleasant mem- ories. 'JfatcoHtU ‘ftyott i Society HOLD HIGH THE TORCH! One of the highest honors conferred upon any high school student in the United States is membership in the National Honor Society. This Society was organized in 1921 and now has 6, 000 chapters, one of which is the Jonathan Alder High School Chapter. Seniors and Juniors must have an average of 3. 00 to be eligible for membership in this Society. However, scholarship alone is no guarantee that a student will be selected for this honor. The Faculty selection of members is based upon the above four qualities. A student who receives this high honor must strive to maintain those qualities for which he was chosen. Members of the National Honor Society elected to the Society in 1957. Standing, left to right: A. Andrews, C. Converse, P. Kirby, G. Karrer, E. Hanscel, M. Lucas, C. Boggs, and J. Minshall.
