Befuddled seminar pupils were given assistance by Miss Alice Hartman, head of the foreign language department. Linguistic students practiced French, Cer- man, Latin, or Spanish by utilizing tape record- ers and expounding upon alien cultures in class. Miss Elizabeth Klein taught foreign languages at both West and East high schools. Special ed- ucation German for freshmen and sophomores was instructed by Mrs. Linda Parthun. Funds were slashed to a minimum as the school district attempted to ease financial ten- sions by tightening department budgets. In the foreign language section, resources for supplies were reduced by 33 per cent compared to the 1968 budget, Outlays for electrical equipment were diminished 83 per cent contrasted to last yearis statistics for expenses. Foreign language classes were the medium in which 860 students learned about the language and culture of countries abroad. Academics
