Visual aids used more by math department in 1969 From the math labis library to Mr. Mit- chellis algebra is funn sign, the math depart- ment scribbled and calculated its way through the 1969 school year. Approximately 1,202 stu- dents participated in math classes designed for their capabilities and experience. Number-dazed Tigers still continued to filter out from the simple maze of rooms called math department, Future Albert Einsteinis were instructed with the assistance of a small band of teachers and visual aids. Overhead projectors and math models were used more in 1969 than in years past. 'iStudents have been very good in handling the aidsf, pointed out Miss Fisher, department head. i'Only S35 worth of material has been broken or lost in Westis five year historyf, Problems and equations continued to either satisfy or torment students taking math. At dayis end, janitors were often confronted with the aftermath of man versus arithmetic: bits of erasers and pencils strewn about tables and chairs. lt was up to the pupil to decide whether numbers would be friend or foe. Despite some student opinions, Mrs. Armstrong summed up the school year by saying, Mathematics is fun.
