Student life exists behind the scenes at West Students of joliet West found many ways to occupy their time outside of school. Dating gave students a chance to relax, have fun, and tem- porarily forget school pressures. Attending a football game was a common way for students to spend an evening. Some took advantage of fall weather to spend time outdoors. For some students, working at part-time jobs was a way to supplement their income. Students worked for a variety of reasons-to gain independence and experience, to meet new people, and to earn extra spending money. Some jobs were more than just a way to make money. Students who volunteered their time felt that self-satisfaction meant more to them than a paycheck. Some students found that their jobs opened up opportunities to develop special interests or gain background for the careers they would pursue later in life.
