Key Club and NHS accent service and scholarship Key Club sponsored many activities throughout the year. Members raised money through the operation of concession stands at home football and basketball games. Home- coming royalty was announced at the Key Club- hosted bonfire. One well-remembered service of the Key Club was that of the Guy Morgan Recovery Drive. Guy, a freshman at West was critically burned and confined to hospital care for sev- eral months. Key Club members raised over 82,000 to pay a partial amount of Guy's medical expenses. National Honor Society delegates Dave Brown, Scott Becker, and Rick Kerr represented West on the television program, Itfs Academic. Serving students at West, NHS sold used books at the beginning of each semester. Book sales added S250 to the clubis treasury. NHS membership rose to 99 with the induction of 41 seniors in December. Library and medical clubs serve school, community Medical Careers Club, under the direction of Mrs. Marjorie Nance, made many students ayvare of careers available in the medical field. Members met each first and third Wednesday of the month to plan future projects. In the fall, the club took a field trip to the Argonne National Laboratory. Later in the year, during the Christmas season, they made toy elves for children who were in Silver Cross and St. joseph's hospitals, Red Cross allowed students to provide ser- vice other than academic to their school and their community. It was open to every student who contributed to the annual Red Cross fund drive. Representatives, who were elected by the homeroom, met once a month. Library Club consisted of over eighty mem- bers. These students acted as assistants to li- brarians Mr. Edmond Williams, Mr. Marvin Shields, and Mrs. Eileen johnson. Their duties included checking out books and magazines, keeping the shelves neat, and assisting teachers with audio equipment. Orqixniv t 143
