Intramural sports continue despite outback of funds Under the new supervision of Mr. Terrence Bergin, the intramural sports again flourished at West. Most successful of the events was the basketball. Thirteen teams in both junior-senior and freshman-sophomore divisions totaled 185 people participating. Also very successful was intramural bowling. Mainly under the organiza- tion of senior joe jones, bowling held the inter- est of 85 students. Because of the late start of intramural ac- tivities, there was no football on the intramural level. Mr. Bergin had high hopes for an active softball program and prospects for golf and tennis activities. Intramural sports were provided for those students who wished to participate in sports but for one reason or another could not. Because of enthusiastic support by the students at West, intramurals continued to flourish as an impor- tant part of the athletic program. Sports 107

0 6' NIZATIOMS' 'Clubs and musical organizations provided the principal means students could use their spare time associating' with fellow students. New friends were found in bands, choirs, service clubs, language clubs, or special clubs. These organizations afforded the fstudent a temporary escape from tedious school- work. Many clubs found the activity period after school a convenient time to meet. With shortened hours this year, the activity period was equivalent to period 12 last year. s Q 'r I ffli yi 1 2 5:15 ,pi - 39232, - EW Q. fi rm Mg? 4 :lu
