STUDENT COUNCIL OFFICERS .lane Duncan treasurer Sandy Arnold secretary Diane Heinlen, vice-presidentg Mark Pederson, president. Student Council Acts as Backbone of West Always on the lookout for a new project beneficial to the school was the Student Council. This student governing body sponsored after- school dances in lieu of after-game dances. They created plans for a Homecoming Week that was filled with fun and enthusiasm. One novel project started by the Council was that of attaining college catalogs for the li- brary. Another collegiate event occured when the Student Council hosted a tea for visiting college students, alumnae of West. Also, a semi-formal dance unfolded to benefit the Dol- lars for Scholars Fund. Money raised at this event was given to a college scholarship program. In the crucial weeks before the Joliet High School Referendum, Student Council enlisted the aid of runners who handed out flyers. This Council also endorsed the school-wide peanut sale for the March of Dimes. Graduation rolled around and the Council made arrangements for the flower boxes and displays.
