Stevens, J. Fishbeck, K. Beaudry, J. Payne, P. Pasteris. FOURTH ROW: B. Rudman, J. Johnson, Band Enters Contest Joliet West's Concert Band packed a mem- orable year full of activities. Fall football games heralded the precision marching of the band during half time pauses. They also marched solemnly at the traditional Veteran's Day parade. Winter concerts were presented, highlighted by a visit from the University of Montana band. Swinging in with the new year, the band rolled into action with the Illinois State Band Contest. This contest of tough competition proved to be a point of determination and ex- citement for the band. High spirits also entered into the intra-band rivalry of the Black and Gold contest. Spring arrived and with it the trip to' Illinois State University to participate in the Clinic-Festival. Aside from this featured event, the band offered a powerful spring concert. COLOR GUARD-Tana Petrich, Greg Butterfield, Dan Fox, Craig Stone, Jerry Johnson, Tom Cockbill, Debbie Arnold. Stage Band Deemed Superior at State Contest p Judged by a veteran group of musicians, the Stage Band captured a superior rating at the Stage Band Contest in Oaklawn. Setting a quick tempo, the swing band played at many concerts. They featured a program of lively jazz at the Christmas Coronation of Miss Alpha Omega. Stage Band proved their merit in performing popular swing music. On a smaller scale, the Cadet Band pat- terned their work after the Concert Band. They acquired many hours of essential practice. Members of the Cadet Band received helpful in- dividual instruction. Bob Polancich leads the band through its paces at after school practice.
