Mickey Johnson swings a powerful bat to move the Tigers one run and Regional Tournaments Getting the big run in the big game was the habit of the Tigers in the 1966 baseball season. Capitalizing on this, the team won eight of its last eleven games, boosting its record to eight wins and ten losses. Among those to go down in the Tigers string of victories was the then- league champions Argo. Coach Miller was pleased as his nine played aggressive ball. Led' by Jim Brummund and Mike Cookas, the Tigers were a threat to any pitcher. Effective pitching of Frank Panish and Bob Polancich pushed the team on to win the District and Regional tournaments. One run kept the Ti- gers from winning the Sectional championship game with Rock Island. West also contributed to the first Illini of All-Conference Team with four outstanding ball players. These Tigers, pictured below, are Mike Cookas, Bob Polancich, Dean Burtch, Jim Brummund. Tiger Cubs Finish Season With 4-8 Record Starting the season off with a six-three win over Lockport West, the sophomores were off with a bang. By the same tough defense and a spirited offense, the sophomores beat Kankakee, the pacesetters of the league, five to two. Os- wego suffered the same fate at the hands of the Tigers with a score of nine to two. Healthy re- spect for the Illini 8 league developed as the Tiger Cubs finished the season with a four win- eight loss record.
