SWIMMING TEAM--FRONT ROW: Andy Wood, Tom Markwalter, Robert Langer- man. SECOND ROW: Warren Block, Mike Bender, Ernest Kreutzer, Steve Morimoto. Warren Block, fourth place winner in the 100 yard backstroke at District, takes off. West Tankmen Gain C3oodQReputaUon at District Swimming has been a team sport since the time of the most ancient records of history, but the tankmen of West added a new wrinkle. With- out sufficient numbers to produce a full team by conference standards, the Tigers pooled their swimming abilities with sister schools East and Central. For the swimmers, the arrival of dawn brought the prospect of a morning workout at the Y.M.C.A. and the setting of the sun signaled the start of the evening practice. Coached by Mr. Kienlen of Central, the aquatic youths spent many hours in the water perfecting strokes, times, and endurance. Individual standouts such as Warren Block, who placed fourth in the 100 yard backstroke and fifth in the 200 yard freestyle at the Hins- dale South District meet, gave testimony to the merit of the squad. To be sure, the swimmers took to the water willingly and gained themselves a good reputation in the process.
