In the most outstanding season since the opening of the school, West's matmen were undefeated in the Illini 8, captured the conference championship, won 12 of 13 dual matches, and took first in the City Quad Meet, the Plainfield Tournament, and the District, plus fifth in the Sectional. In addi- tion, grapplers Mike Cookas, last year's state runner up, and Ron Brown were advanced to the state competition at Champaign where they both took fourth place. Long hours of practice and efforts to make weight were rewarded as the wrestlers ad- vanced consistently toward a nearly flawless season.
