Tiger Dale Evans joins cheerleader April Stevens in a crowd raising cheer. 4 Cheerleaders Radiate, Reflect School Spirit Shelley's famous words, Hail to thee blithe spirit, might well be adjusted to read hail to thee blithe spirits, if he were to de- scribe the vivacious cheerleaders of Joliet West. Indeed, it was said no other group did so much to bolster morale of both students and teams as did the girls in black and gold. Agility and skill, the results of many long hours of practice under the guidance of Mrs. Fritz, were evident throughout the year as the perk teens provided the catalyst that fanned the spark of school spirit into a fire of enthusiasm. Time and again the flash of a smile, an ex- cited shout, or the presence of a tear on a cheerleader's cheek reflected the mood of the action of which they were so much a part. To be sure, cheerleading had its obliga- tions and placed an ample amount of responsi- bility on the girls, and through it all they re- mained blithe spirits.
