Library Was Focus for Academic Achievement Located in the hub of the school, the li- brary was the focus for academic achievement. Whether working on English term papers or history seminars, students expanded their nu- cleus of classroom knowledge through the libraryis resources. Records, tape recorders, and filmstrips comprised just part of the teach- ing devices available to both students and teachers. Conference rooms, study carrels, and study halls made it possible for extra studying or for group work. srse r t.'-tta sres i ' , spcl. wt N K - ' --e me t 15 t, Dave Nelson and Paula Lorey discover communication is important in study hall. Physical Education Balanced Dexterity, Sportsmanship 146 Apprehension mounts as the ball soars toward the basket. Leaping in the air saves the rebound for the home team. Physical education strived for a balance between physical dexterity and sportsmanship. Gym classes taught students the value of a physically developed body, which complemented the academic achievements of a strong mind in building a well-developed person. Variety of individual activities provided a chance for the cultivation of specific skills. Group sports gave students a coordination of physical proficiency and the qualities of work- ing together in harmony and courtesy. Girls gained grace and poise through courses of basic movement and modern dance. Safety conscious- ness was imparted to all gym students by means of the required first aid course. Boys choosing to join R.O.T.C. also learned the controls of working together under specific commands. Agility abounds as these boys race for the top of the rope.
