Door to Future Careers Business education provided an open door to many careers in the business world. Future secretaries, clerks, and stenographers re- ceived training in their chosen fields by taking typing, shorthand, and bookkeeping. Students interested in office mechanics learned on West's office machinery. Both main typing rooms were busy every period of the day, pointing out the importance of this department, headed by Mr. Jamnik. Students planning on careers in unrelated fields also found business courses such as typ- ing and shorthand helpful in taking classroom notes or working on term papers. West's IBM typewriters offered students training for the automated world they will face after graduation. W1llCtl'HHSfCl'S ShOl'lh2iIld t0IhCPrlIlI6d page TOP ROW Charles Baker, Carolyn M.
