Students studying foreign languages not only learned the language of a particular nation, but also they were familiarized with the customs and culture of the nation. Cicero's orations and speeches became realistic for Latin students when they actually performed exciting scenes from their studies. Slides and films also helped the Latin student to visualize life in ancient Rome more vividly. French students became acquainted with the customs and cultures of France as well as the history of its political and social reforms. Knowledge of Spain and Germany was intro- duced to the classroom in the form of audio- visual and audio-lingual aids. By the use of the language laboratory, students devoted time to the skill 'of speaking as well as hearing their respective languages.
