120 William Pierce Thomas Marentic Joye Krick Cadet Lieutenant Colonel Cadet Major I h Battalion Sponsor Battalion Commander Battalion Executive Officer Honored ROTC Cadets Pass in Review Many cadets received special honors, re- flecting great credit upon themselves and West's unit. This award assembly was the event at which outstanding cadets merited distinct awards. Cadet-Captain Paul Padden received the Chicago Tribune's Silver Tribune Award for military achievement, scholastic attainment, and excellent character. Presented to Cadet Sergeant First Class Lawrence Pollack was the Gold Tribune Award. Other honors were re- ceived by the cadets and the sponsors. Cadets found themselves in full charge on battalion day. Responsibility was delegated to the members of the ROTC. They handled vari- ous technical duties and assignments. Heading the ROTC at West were Major Nelson and MasterfSergeant Swinke. West and the other Joliet high schools had the distinction of being the first high schools in the United States to employ retired military commanders. , Q Q Mr. Harris Enderson awards Cadet Steve England the Mr. Harold Coleman presents the Citizenship Ribbon to Cadet Lee Roper.
