Modern Dance Evokes Grace through Expression Girls with a common interest in dance, broke away from a GAA activity to form a sep- arate club. Originally modern dance was a part of a regular girl's physical education schedule. Girls then wanted additional practice after school, so GAA sponsored them as an eight week activity. But when the eight weeks were up, they wanted to continue to meet so Mrs. Atterberry and Mrs. Ocokoljich took upon them- selves the task of forming the new club. Missy Bradley was elected president to pre- side at the business meetings. 117

ROTC Prepares Young Men For Military Service Profiting in a' rigorous education in mili- tary subjects, the ROTC gained practical knowledge. This program laid the foundation for leadership, drill command, military courtesy, and other basic subjects in the four branches of the Armed Forces. Members were instructed in map reading, hygiene, sanitation, first aid, weapons, and military leadership. As the year progressed, the ROTC took on the heavy responsibility of a can drive. These donations were presented to the Salvation Army to be distributed during the Christmas holidays. West's ROTC carried on an extensive door to door campaign. Their efforts showed in the successful collection of over one-third of the cans for the whole city of Joliet. Dan Davis performs the duty of recording new assignments.
