In three other tongues students could be heard reminding each other of the var- ious language club meetings. Developing a French flair, the French Club read foreign magazines, planned a trip to Chi- cago, and even investigated the world of French cookery in a soup tasting event. Latin Club delved into classical Roman lit- erature such as Cicero and Cato. Arrangements were underway for the annual Roman banquet complete with costumes and slaves and the at- mosphere of ancient Rome. German Club kept up with current affairs in Germany. They saw slides of the German countryside, and they watched as plans for a Chicago visit materialized. Spanish guitars or a boisterous fiesta song could be heard coming from Room 130. Spanish Club listened to native records and saw in- teresting personal films of Spanish customs. President Norman Hall conducts a Latin Club meeting. 1 z 103

104 Medical Careers, Red Cross Work with Community Developing a deeper interest in the field of medicine, the Medical Careers Club partici- pated in an informative program. Along with in- teresting films, the club was entertained by guest speakers. Mrs. Naomi Corsini briefed the club on volunteer service opportunities at Silver Cross. Jerry Lynn Lovati lectured on the work of a lab technician. Traveling to the Cook County Hospital, the Medical Careers Club toured the School of Nursing. Members packaged cards and stamps for the children in the Guardian Angel Home during the Christmas season. Signaling the end of the year, the club took to the outdoors for a picnic. Red Cross packed a busy year starting with the Community Drive in which all homerooms took part. For St. Patrick's Day, the club created candy favors for the patients at the St. Joseph's Hospital. Red Cross also distributed the American Red Cross Magazine throughout the school.
