Chess Club Organized as a means of teaching, students the fundamentals of playing, chess and as a means of competition for proficient chess players, Chess Club enjoyed a successful year at West with Mr. McClain as the Chess Club sponsor. As a money-making project, AFS sold under- class pictures of freshmen, sophomores and juniors. SEC- OND ROW: Nancy Johnson, Betsy Pohl, Nancy Career Clubs Provided Training for Future Iobs Awareness of the need of train- ing for future careers prompted stu- dents at West High to join these clubs: Future Farmers of America, Future Homemakers of America, Future Teachers' Association, Office Occupations and Distributive Edu- cation. FFA, FHA, and FTA took trips to areas in which their partic- ular career could 'be studied such as FHA's visit to the dairy council, FTA's visits to different colleges and FFA's visit to the Grain and Poultry Show. 0.0. and D.E. were organiza- tions in which students went to school for half of the day and worked at a job the other half.
