Chess Club Organized as a means of teaching, students the fundamentals of playing, chess and as a means of competition for proficient chess players, Chess Club enjoyed a successful year at West with Mr. McClain as the Chess Club sponsor. Most members, such as Fred Klein, King of AA, and Anita Venzara, Queen, had an intense interest in the scientific nature of the world. P. G. Koutnik sponsored this club which showed a film from the Argonne laboratories at each meeting. These films depicted different areas of research. A one-half hour demon- stration or lecture was given after the film. Alchemists Anon- ymous sponsored Saturday field trips to the University of ROW: Paul Bush, Don LaBorde, Dan DeWitt, Gary Horwitz, Jerry Lane, Norman Hall, Franklin Hall, Pat Donnelly, Marshall Brown, Paul Steinquish.
