Treble Choir Sponsors Candy Land Ball Candy Land was the theme of the semi-formal dance sponsored by the Treble Choir under the direction of Mr. Roy Johnson. A tremendous card-board lollipop was sus- pended from the ceiling over the refreshment table which was the outstanding decoration. For the guests with a sweet tooth, the choir placed a large candy jar in the center of the dance floor. With satisfying music and vivid decorations, the West cafeteria was miraculously transformed into an en- chanting Candy Land. Corliss was delighted when Uncle George fScott Baskinl invited her to New York to chisten a new ship. Fall Play A Success Kiss and Tell, sponsored by the Speech Activities Club, was West's .first dramatic production of the year. This was the first time a play of this type had ever been pre- sented to the Joliet audience and, under the direction of Mr. B. F. Johnston it was very well received. Creating the plot was a modern situation concerning two couples which resulted in an embarrassing misunderstanding. Mildred Pringle, Corliss Archer's best friend, secretly married Lennie Archer early in the play. Because Mr. and Mrs. Archer felt Mildred was acting as a poor influence upon Corliss, a family feud developed. Consequently, Mil- dred's marriage to Lennie was kept a secret to avoid any trouble. When Corliss was seen entering the of- fice of an obstetrician with Mildred, the Archers were informed and immediately jumped to natural conclusions. After a com- plete explanation from the two girls, the Archers were relieved at the realization that Mildred was pregnant and not Corliss! Now friendly, the two families welcomed the mar- riage, and the play ended on a happy note.

One-Act Plays Offer Variety Air Raid and Antic Spring, two of the one-act plays presented in Janu- ary, were directed by students and brought to life on the stage of the Little Theatre. Antic Spring, directed by Conni Rajala, a junior, was just what the title suggested. Six teenagers, an idea for a picnic, and a drive to the woods set the plot for this delight- ful comedy. Confusion and humorous happenings resulting from this outing left the audience charmed by all the antics in Antic Spring. Mark Pederson, also a junior, direc- ted Air Raid. Centering around aver- age American people who lived in a normal everyday town, the plot proved to be anything but normal or average. Bringing an awareness of the ever present threat of war before the audi- ence, this play contrasted sharply with the comedy in Antic Spring. Sue Kempe and Marilou Hoffman, as two housewives, and Bev LaBo1-de and Kathy Canterbury, as typical teens, helped set the plot for Air Raid Contest Play Receives First in State Mr. B. F.
