Swinging on a Star was selected as the theme, and the decoration highlights in- cluded short phrases from the popular song, Swinging on a Star, and tiny metallic stars suspended from the ceiling. Throughout the play, the Days found it difficult to adjust to a maid and consequently hired several during a short period of time. Their five maids were: Margaret CLinda Jorgensonb, Maggie qAnne Calosiob, Nora tTina Woody, Annie fMelita Lock- woodl, and Delia tNancy Ruttlel. nay Family sncnams inner Audience Life With Father, by Lindsay and Crouse, sum- marized the life of an average American family in the early 1900's. Based on Clarence Day's best seller, the three-act play presented to its audience both the emotions of a close family with four young boys, and also the comical scenes they experienced. Under the direction of Mr. B. F. Johnston, the Speech Activities Club introduced Life With Father to the Joliet audience for the first time. The Theatre Season of 1939-40 saw the advent of a play that was sure to become one of the all-time hits. Life With Father held the record for years on Broadway for the greatest number of consecutive performances, and became just as successful in the Joliet West auditorium. S' Q Makeup is most important for authentic portrayal of the characters. Vinnie consults with Reverend Dr. Lloyd CCharles Bensonh vyhile Dr. Sommers tChuck Morrowj and Dr. Humphreys CBill Gremerb ponder the situation of her supposedly illegal marriage.
