SWIM TEAM--FRONT ROW: Tom Mahoney, Tim Pohlman, Mike Pas- teris. SECOND ROW: Andy Wood, Tom McDonald, Ernie Kruetzer, Bill Shaub, Reid Langerman. THIRD ROW: Dan McGinty, Greg Tuntland, Warren Block, Mike Bender. Swimmers--The Team That Cannot Win Swimmers at West High probably received the least attention of any athletes. First of all, the team was at a disadvantage because of the school not having a poolg thus the team was forced to hold all their practices in the pool at the Y.M.C.A. These boys were at the Y and ready to practice at six-thirty every morning and again for a second practice at three o'c1ock after school. Swimming meet regulations required that a team consist of more members than any of the three Joliet schools had, so West, Central, and East combined their efforts into one team. However, in competition each school had to be considered individually. This made it im- possible for any of them to actually win a meet. With no victories to their credit, the Tigers found themselves at the bottom of the standings with nine defeats. Tom Mahoney gets ready to hit the water in his 100 yard freestyle swim. 9.41,
