Alpha--The Beginning . . ln September, 1964, Joliet Township High School, West Campus, opened its doors to students for the first time. This was more than the start of a new school, it was the threshold of limitless opportunities. All that one needed was ambition and stamina. Organizations began laying the foundation from which traditions and success would soon rise. At this time, as ideas were transformed into realities, we and the rest of the staffrealized our goal-the best book possible for West High. One of the first things to be considered was the selection of a name for this book. For this we turned to the school at large for suggestions. The staff sorted through the ideas submitted and selected the three best. It was from this group that the name AO was chosen. Alpha Omega, the first and last letters of the Greek alphabet symbolize the beginning through the end. We felt this appropriate, since a yearbook is a memory book picturing an entire school year, the beginning through the end. The Alpha this year holds a dual significance in that it symbolizes the begin- ning of a new school, as well as the beginning of a school year. The Omega merely denotes the completion of the first year of what we know will be a long and successful history. We are proud to have been a part of this first year, and we are equally proud to have had the privilege of presenting West with its first yearbook.
