Holiday in Paris was the theme of the semi-formal dance presented by the Advanced Girls' Chorus, under the direction of Mr. Roy Johnson, This now popular dance is sure to become an annual affair at J.T. West. River City To Joliet l Marie Baitinger, Roberta Hylka, Jyme Rafter, Linda Spires, and Karen McAlister comprise Mrs. Shinns dance group. Ya got trouble! The River City folk listen intently as Harold rlilill explains how a band would keep their boys out of the pool a s. The quartet, Mike Bolos, Jeff Davis, Howard Raddatz, and Theo Polley, makes up the body of the River City school board. Meredith Wilson, author, composer, and lyricist of l'The Music Man, was born in Iowa, where the musical comedy takes place, His wife, half French and half Rus- sian, encouraged him to write it. She wanted him to use the typewriter and the piano simultaneously. Another reason why he wrote, this musical comedy was because he had collected a trunk full of songs through his years as a song writer, and they had never quite been appre- ciated. This seemed like a perfect opportunity to use them, so he wrote t'The Music Manf' Adding to the great success of the Operetta were Howard Manthei as Constable Locke, Sue Richards as Mrs. Paroo, Ina Powell as Gracie Shinn, Marie Baitinger, and Ron Aeschliman. 133

ANNOUNCING INTRODUCTION OF NDCC Three lone couples walk silhouetted against the huge American flag which overlooks a peaceful garden scene. complete with a wishing well. The theme for the l965 NDCC Military Ball at Joliet Township West was, Let Freedom Ring . True to military custom, all committees, from decorations to coat check, were selected months in advance so that work would proceed in an orderly manner. Cadet Lieutenant Colonel Mike Shuler. assisted by Cadet Major Terry Severson, served as the general chairmen of the ball in charge of seeing that all committees were co- ordinated to insure a dance beyond comparison. Cadet officers Lieutenant Colonel Morris Maitland, Major Keith Sweetwood, Captain Philip Kouchoukos, Captain Tom Gruenwald, Captain Joseph Trizna. Captain Bill Genda, Captain David Barns, and Captain Bruce MacQueen lead the grand march accompanied by their dates. The grand march is the highlight of the evening as the ROTC officers form the traditional honor arch of sabres through which the Battalion Sponsor leads the march. 135
