I Stellar characters Emily Webb fKathy Rogers? and George Gibbs tCharles Martingl stand solemnly as the Stage Manager flvlark Pedersonl performs the marriage ceremony, assisted by the Choir which sings softly in the background. 128 Our Townl' was written by Thornton Wilder and requires no scenery. Thornton Wilder lived in China for a time and it was there that he be- came acquainted with a theatre far different from the one he had known in the United States. The Chinese theatre used no scenery and a black coated Property Man moved about the stage arranging simple props, such as chairs and tables. Later, when he wrote 'LOur Town, Thornton Wilder combined the American people with the bare Chinese stage and added a Stage Manager who in reality was a modified Property Man. SPEECH ACTIVITIES CLUB Just two years ago Life magazine stated: In the quarter of a century since it was written, SOur Town' has won the heart of America be- cause it talks to the heart. THE YEARBOOK STAFF PRESENTS J.T. WEST,S The Yearbook Staff, under the direc- tion of Mr. Charles Baker, presented the first Alpha Omega Winter Formal to the theme, Night Before Christmas . Although the budget was kept to a mini- mum by borrowing decorations for the dance from staff members, very effective lighting and a unique display of things reminiscent of an old fashioned Christ- mas lended to the novel effect. 130 Freshmen Sue Schiek and Mary Jorgensen carry on typical women's chatter as their senior escorts, Jim Kilgos and Jim Beach stand speechless with wonder. Jackie McComb and her escort, Ron Carloss, admire the presents and holly that adorn the sleigh. The old fashioned Christmas tree, complete with popcorn strings and presents, stands majestically as the formal couples dance to the music of Bill Carnegie and his orchestra. Kay Booras and Judy Lutz, co-editors of the Yearbook, exhibit the name, Alpha Ome- ga , as Mr. Baker ex- plains its selection.
