aWords are but the Signs of Ideasn Students in English I study Mythology. as well as grammar and composition. David Oliver, Hazel Severson, and Pat Seeman read stories of Greek gods to the class. -E xg Miss Eldred lectures on the fine points of composition and theme writing in her College Prep English Class. The English Department is working on a spe- cial project called The Sequential Skills Pro- gram in addition to teaching the usual subject matter. This program was developed when it was found that many college freshmen were flunking because of their lack of proficiency in English composition. The Sequential Skillsu program is the result of two years of study and investigation at Central Campus. It stresses writ- ing, reading, listening, speaking, and library skills. Through this program the students at Joliet West High School will be readier to face the challenge of college work. Pictured are students of Mr. McClain's College Prep English Class making use of one of the light courts as a class room. Mrs. Fritz instructs students in her X English III team-teaching class as to the different topics which they may choose for a theme. 10
