'K-25' Leaders are made, not born was the Topic of discussion by Dr. Kinney at the Leadership Conference. The only problem here is deciding what to eat first. Some JJC students participated in a Leadership Conference at Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. The stu- dents attending were separated into several groups and given a problem to solve. They were instructed on how to conduct a meeting, discuss a problem within a group, and come up with a solution. These groups then discussed their prob- lem with the other groups. Dr. Kinney gave a talk on the topic, Leaders are made, not born. w What's the problem? Planning the event of the evening are from left, Don Dixon, Terry Ziesmer, and Tom Hankinson. i . JJC BRINGS IN NEW YEAR-'64 H N I . g .-lx,,d,,93 Bob Bernickus plants a happy new year's kiss on Lu Lisdero, while Lynn Olsen and Jim Madison toast the new year. The strains ot Auld Lang Syne fill the gym as played by the Bill Carnegie Band, accompanied by a shower of balloons and confetti. The annual New Year's Eve dance was a complete suc- cess, and a fine tribute to a good year for JJC, 1963. With the already forgotten resolutions and the din of noise makers, the new year, 1964, was ushered in. Though the old year was truly one of the best, the out- look for '64 is even better. At midnight, noise makers blarred as confetti and colored bal- loons fell from the ceiling. Larry Kachel adds to the general chaos and con fusion at midnight. Gay paper hats and noise makers were dis tributed just before midnight, then the count down began. .... . V ... - - c. --'wr' , y N E . . .V ,Q.,... . . -s. '- s . . -- rm .v-,v U H : A A in . French Superintendent ot Joliet Township High School and Junior College. SEAL OF APPROVAL The Board of Education possesses the seal of approval and represents the local community's interest in Joliet Junior College. The seven mem- bers, elected from the school district, see to it that tax money is wisely spent to make JJC the kind of school the community wants. The members are concerned with the school image. They determine policy and formulate a statement of JJC's educational objectives. These are the possessors of the seal of approval on dis- ciplinary measures and the spokesmen of the school in all areas concerned. The board, along with the administration, are continually planning forthe expansion of both the junior college's phys- ical plant and its curriculum for the betterment of the community now and in the future. Administrators ot the Seal ot Approval. liam C. French, Dr. Robert Geist, Mr. Norman Seated lett to right, clockwise, around the table, Keck, Dr. William DeWitt, and Mr. VV. Howard are Dr. Suren Seron, Mrs. Verna Carey, Dr. H. Lloyd. Chas. Cohenour, Mr. Frederick Fisher, Dr, Wil- Mr. John H. French Assistant Superintendent ot Joliet Town- ship High School and Junior College. THE MEN AT THE TOP The men at the top, the administra- tion, have a far more difficult iob to do than to warm soft chairs in offices. They are responsible for co-ordination of all the activities of the JJC community. Only part of their iob is the maintenance of academic excellence, provision of sup- plies, space, faculty, clerical and mainte- nance personnel. The administration, in addition, must look to the future. With the opening of two new high schools, more space will be available for JJC. This not only opens the door to more classroom and laboratory space but also to the expansion of the li- brary, cafeteria, and smoker as well. This expansion requires continuous and care- ful planning in order to make the best pos- sibe use of the new resources. Planning for growth summarizes a great part, but only a part, of the job of the men at the fop.ll if Mr. Elmer W. Rowley Dean of Joliet Junior College. sz ak Mr. Floyd C. Dwight Toland took first in the singles in the conferencep Bill Smilie and Dave Hicks placed second in the doubles. For the second year in a row, the National Junior College Championship matches were held in Joliet. Owing largely to the careful planning of Mr. Herman Walser, Athletic Di- rector of JJC, and to the diligence and energy of Coach Harold Howie Scheidt, the matches were a success that brought credit to JJC. Neither Mr. Walser nor Mr. Scheidt will be with JJC next year. After many years of dedi- cated service to the iunior college and the high school, Mr. Walser has elected to assume duties as athletic director at the West Campus of Joliet Township High School. Mr. Walser's many years of effort have brought to our JC athletic program a vitality that is rivaled only by the excellence of its achievements.
