A Foreword . . . A new decade on the calendar and a new look at joliet junior College: each offers, even promises, much -- the secrets of a new age. The sixties will bring to the people of America untold advancements in all phases of life. Missiles will soar higher, travel will be faster and farther, man will push buttons to live, telephones will permit vision, cars will run by elec- tricity and people will hardly recognize the world in which they live. Progress will come, too, with the forward march of the junior college movement. Already educators are re -evaluating the advantages of these two -year colleges which seem to be springing up suddenly all over the United States. Our college in joliet was first and we shall watch as it expands to accommo- date the growing legions of young people who come in quest of a college education. The year of 1959-60 has seen a marked change in the facilities of this junior college. A new cafeteria, larger library and smoker, and a new Press Club office has been added for the use of the students. A record has been broken, too, in enrollment. An army eight hundred strong has registeredjwith one hundred and fifty more expected next year. A new era is approaching, the golden era of energy. Uses for atomic energy will reach new heights and human energy will strive to surpass all its pre- vious records. With the increasing demands of the community, the junior college will work with increas- ing energy to give to its future students the education they desire to meet the challenge of a place in the world. lt will take energy, a will of iron, enthusiasm, and courage, with always an eye to the future which holds so much opportunity and moves ahead so rapidly. Lightning fast will be the changes in this new age and quicker still will be the efforts of the junior college to keep up with the progress of the World.
