Sammy Kaye . . . November 27, 1959 Dear Diary, It was just perfect--every minute of it! l'll never forget my first IIC Fall Formal. The theme, Autumn in Abstract was carried out very effectively in the de- corations. Judy Regis and Gordon Kay, co-chairmen, really did a great job. As we entered the gym, we heard the music of Sammy Kaye and his orchestra, and we saw the bright colors - red, orange, yellow, black and white-which had transformed the gym into an abstractautumn set- ting. Modern painting, which had been done by IIC students for the painting contest, covered the walls. During the intermission the judges chose Gum under Microscope by Larry Lerfald as one of the outstanding paintings. The climax of the intermission was the Grand March. The --so you want to lead a band contest was directed by Sammy Kaye. Four contestants tried their skill at leading Sammy Kaye's orchestra. Jeanne Lam- bert's cool beat gave her the first place. The memories of this fall formal will long linger with the JJC students. +n 'r1P-' Sammy Kaye looks on with approval as the vocalists perform.
