I X Homecoming Preparations for homecoming weekend were begun weeks before the set date of November 7th, Clubs began ' building floats, committees began working out the details for the weekend activities, and everyone was campaign- ing for his queen candidate choice. Homecoming was launched with the girls' football game held at the athletic field. These girls really had an amazed and amused audience. The bonfire symbolized our hope for a victory against Wilson. Following the bon- fire the students went to the Y for a mixer. The crown- ing point was the announcement of the 1959 Homecoming Queen, Karen Hancock. The next day the clubs scurried around in order to finish the floats by 5 o'clock. At that time the floats were judged, and the parade began. Huddled figures in the stadium cheered and rooted for the fighting Wolves. Although we lost the game to Wilson. both the players and fans showed enthusiastic school spirit. During the halftime ceremony the floats circled the field and the winning floats were announced. The Letter- men's - Vet's Club float, a purple people eater, took first place. The Press Club and Choir floats tied for sec- ond place. The Business Club won third place. Also dur- ing the halftime, the Lettermen's Club presented Mr. Herm Walser, athletic director, with a jacket and blanket in the traditional school colors, purple and white. This night had been designated as Herm Walser Night. The audience watches in anticipation as the queen is about to be announced. The climax to the homecoming weekend was the dance held in the gym, which was attended by many alumni and present junior college students. 14
