EDMUND C. PUDDICOMBE During the day you can see him lecturing physiology classes in Room 291g after school you might find him sponsoring an SMS meeting or working on the illustrations for his loose-leaf notebook that his students useg or on a free day you might find him taking SMS members on a field trip to some research center or hospital. This is Mr, Edmund C. Puddicombe. For years he has readily given his services and time to the junior college, especially to the Students of Medical Science, one of the most active clubs of the school. Words cannot measure these services, cannot give even a slight hint of the time spent. This year we dedicate The Shield to Mr. Puddicombe to show that his ef- forts and help are appreciated. A Message Prom The Baan and The Assistant Dean Every commencement many graduates say how much ' S they have enjoyed junior college and how fast the time has , , .,,: flown. Thus it will be with most of the rest of your lives. Time rests easy on the shoulders of those who have learned 'S many of the basic lessons junior college teaches. You have learned that life has success as well as de- feat, that today lived well makes yesterday and tomorrow In j 'l v better, that every now and then you get slapped when you . g ' .. L ,-.. ' Y 'A' ss fe - M thought you would get praised, or vice versa, and that friends . . zi, -59 are more precious than gold. You have learned that life In gk can be beautiful as well as sad, and that you can cope with ' the problems it brings. You are to be complimented, for you have achieved .,.. . . 1.1. ,,., something of which you can well be proud. A ,f 'L f ' S , if ELMER W. ROWLEY, Dean B.S., University of Illinois M.A., University of Chicago Greetings to the 1958 graduates of the Joliet junior College. During the two years you have been with us, the launching of satellites, the plans for a trip to the moon in the not too distant future. and the promise of even speedier jet planes by the close of the year make this a most exciting world. To live in such times, uncertain and even perilous though they may be, education plays an nf. important role. Hundreds of years ago Socrates described mil the educated man as one who could control circumstances and not be mastered by them. To live in such a rapidly chang- ing world, seek every opportunity to learn more about it and the people who live within it. SUSAN H.
