May they keep working for improvements which will help to combat juvenile delinquency and, as their predecessors did, plan 1n advance to have . . . 1 enough educational facilities to accommodate the growing number of young peop e in a growing All-America City, so that Joilet will be not just a one year award winner, but perennially among the top cities of the country for providing effective youth pro grams, improving government and expanding educational facilities The All-America City award was presented to Joilet officials on Dec 20 1955 y Look magazine and the ational Municipal League. It was based on the c1v1c advance ments in the city as exemplified by the Citizens School Survey and the Better Schools . . . . . th committee who together started an extensive building program, by various civic ou organizations for their work which gave Joilet the lowest proportionate rate of de linquency in the country, and by the Better Joliet committee which helped to bring council-manager government to the city. The award was given to Joliet and ten other United States cities after much consideration by an All America jur Jo let s accom plishments were eloquently presented by the city's spokesman, Rabbi M M Hers in Seattle, Wash., on July 25, 1955. f X 7 nw- 3 fb? For some, it will mark six years of attendance, including high school, behind these ivy-covered walls and for others, just two years of college. , Graduation, in a sense, is the end of a lot of fun, mixers, football and basketball games, parties, formal dances, and so forth. However, it also recalls to us some of the premieres of the school established by this class. Major first events include: Homecoming, alumni dance, new attendance program for college classes, new scholarship program, formation of an independent social coun- cil to plan college events calendar, formation of Veterans' and Booster clubs, first year- book in five years flnal development of the college lounge remodeling of the smoker and dedication of a monument Graduation 1snt the end but rather the beginning of tomorrow s dream, for with the diploma one becomes a full fledged citizen of city state and nation Secretary Treasurer ISecond Semester! .mr.A..m.d4c '...4a...e...... aw.-uMw..fu warm 9 9 l 9 . . , - . . , . 7 7 1 ' 1 ' t N 2 3 I - ,.i, TED WEBBER ' Ni? 4 ei e 4 'E , V , 3323-s I--C! Wrestling The first wrestling squad JJC has had in a long time was trained by Coach Hal Wimberly who produced an excellent wrestling squad. After a rather disastrous start, during which the Wolves lost to Wheaton HB team, 20 to 18, they won against the University of Chicago 26 to 10. Though hampered by losses in the rest of the matches, Coach Wimberly's Wolves went on gamely: Wheaton MBU 25-JJC 9, Illinois Tech 13-JJC 12, Wright JC 23-JJC 11. Q The outlook for 1956 and 1957 contests is very good since only six men will be lost by graduation. Replacements are being made now, in advance. Co-Captains of the squad are Richard Lasser and Tony Bertucci, both sophomores. Other matmen are as follows: 123 pounds, Jim Johnston, 130, George Provance and George Alderman, 137, Bruce Tompkins, 1417, Richard Hrpcha, 157, Bennie Sims, 167, Richard Lasserg 177, Fred Goss, and heavyweights, Tonny Bertucci, Gale Voight and John Bakos.
