The XVJXA. encourages participation in sports and he-ips promote friendliness and further ideais oi good sportsmanship and heaith among women students. On the first Tuesday of each month a regular husiness meeting was heid, white every Thursday noon there was a cabinet meeting. This yearis sport season introduced a new sport, hiking. The hiking ciuim tooii short trips around town which included weiner roasts and toasted marshmaiiows at the end of the hike. The VV.A.A. offers instructions in seasonai sports and dancing, thus offering every girl an opportunity to iearn to dance and engage in competitive piay. Two seasons of sports were held in iuowiing, fencing, riding, archery, badminton, ping pong and shutiliehoard. At the co-recrea- tionai hour every Nionday after schooi there- were individual tournaments. Ladder tournaments were heid in swimming, goii, and tennis. There were round-roiain tournaments in inasehaii and inasiietbaii. Orchesis and iaaiiroom dancing were popuiar in the spring. The giris not oniy were active in sports iuut gave many deiightiui programs. The attairs spon- sored hy the organization were: An initiation Service, Headiiner Dance, Christmas Tea. Dads Sport Night, Hicic Sports Day, Hayioft Swing, and a picnic. To ciirnax a year's activities the VV.A.A, heid its annuai ixiother and Daughter Tea in ixiay. -fa: .A.A. Hlnitiation Ceremon The VV.A.A. ulnitiation Ceremony was held Septemloer second in the XV.A.A. Cluh Room. The newly-elected olllzicers, when their names were called, stepped lorward and were presented with a candle. As one hody they then tooli the oath of office and lighted their candles. These lighted candles represent the ever-ready help that the otl-'icers will give to the XV0lIl6ll'S Athletic Association. The officers lor the current year were: President, Helen Xveelxsg Vice-President, Phyllis Stone: Secretary-Treasurer, hluriel Qshornez Head of Sports, lxlarion Lennon: Head of Puhlicity, lxlargaret Haynes. Alter the candle-lighting service Ftrs. Kirhy told us the purpose and aims of the XV.A,A. All the heads of sports then came forward and as a group repeated the oath of office. The heads of sports for the current year were-1 lsahel Anderson. Archery: Barbara Dinet, Tahle Tennis: Eva Sweda.
